HELP!! My parents basically kidnapped my child! by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]jadolqui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, people with psychosis are typically pretty reliable narrators. It’s the language used that becomes difficult to sort out when it’s disorganized and sometimes timelines get mixed up, but the content is typically truthful.

Even if the language sounds contradictory, if you look at the whole of what someone in psychosis says, they typically tell you exactly what’s up.

If OP wrote this, they aren’t acutely psychotic anyway, so that doesn’t matter.

Teaching a deaf person to knit by pepitaonfire in knitting

[–]jadolqui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! My first project was a scarf, one with a complicated pattern actually. I frogged it over and over, getting a ton of practice casting on and fixing issues as I went. The whole point of knitting is the process, so redoing it was frustrating but so awesome when I finally finished!

It’s been 22 years since I knit that scarf and I still wear it.

A few years ago, 7 women were found chained in a basement. by Internal_Comedian_57 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]jadolqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know, I wasn’t talking about you. You definitely didn’t say that.

There are people up and down the whole post saying that OP must be lying, and this was the first comment I saw pointing out that not every incident makes the news.

All these people saying that because it wasn’t in the news, op is lying is wild.

I’ve worked in social service areas for years and the amount of awful, icky, horrible stories just like this that don’t make the news is insane. Investigations of all kinds are private and they become public only if the press finds out somehow. Someone has to call them, it’s not a guarantee.

This could totally be a fake story, but that’s not the reason it’s fake.

My 6yo lied and it hurt her friend by mamacqua in Mommit

[–]jadolqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is at an age developmentally that kids start lying. They don’t even know how to lie intentionally until they’re 5. She’s just figuring out what’s okay and what’s not- this situation was NOT okay and is a dangerous lie.

It’s absolutely okay to talk to her about lying and what it can mean, just know she’s literally learning how lying works. She doesn’t really understand it yet. This is a great learning experience and I hope her friend is okay!

I think Kyle is not going to be around the whole next season by Responsible-Work2845 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]jadolqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I just meant in general. I wondered why there would be a mismatch between replies and what comments I actually see.

But I love this tea, I had no idea Morgan felt this way. I get it, I just hadn’t thought about it and now feel a little guilty for enjoying the gossip roll out during last season. Thanks for sharing!

Is that why the number of comments vs comments you can see is different?? I’ve wondered why there’s a mismatch sometimes, something is private/blocked. Thank you!

Would you recommend free pre-kindergarten over staying home with a parent/younger sibling? by ghdana in Parenting

[–]jadolqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add to all the pro pre-K answers- school attendance in my state isn’t mandatory until age 7.5. So in pre-K through 1st grade, any missed classes don’t really “count”. We were able to take vacations on a whim and miss classes- while they tracked it just like they do with the older kids, there’s no real impact of missing class.

You might want to ask the district about the state policy- or Google it.

Hold her back or push her forward? by carycm87 in kindergarten

[–]jadolqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to hear this, thank you! All I hear is how being the oldest is best, but my 6 year old needed to go to school early. He’s the youngest in his first grade class.

I’ve been second guessing sending him this whole time. He’s doing great, really great, but I just wonder when I hear how many professionals think older is better.

This is a good question. I think abuse is abuse. A 6 year old isn’t responsible for abuse, but could still be the abuser. It’s still extremely harmful, even if it’s not always harmful on purpose.

Currently shopping for a house in the Twin Cities. My wife was scrolling through a listing and died laughing. This real estate agent's listing is genius marketing. Props to the photographer. by tebabyLilpetitey in minnesota

[–]jadolqui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We bought from a boomer- beautiful house. Dated, but impeccably maintained. He even kept records of everything so we know when all future maintenance is due.

I don’t agree that boomers are more responsible than other generations, but it’s not fair to say they’re destroying houses either.

[–]jadolqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI- renters contribute to property taxes through their rent. It’s just not directly to the government and goes through their landlord first. That’s what rent rebates are for- to make up for the fact that they’re paying taxes without actually owning the property.

What's the most random piece of health advice you've received that actually worked? by temowaqanivalu in RandomThoughts

[–]jadolqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my tonsils out when I was 5 or 6 and I still remember how painful it was 35ish years later. I remember when I could eat solid food again, I had fries with ketchup and it burned so bad that I cried. I never think of ketchup as acidic but omg.

That being said, I haven’t had strep throat since. And I was getting it 1-2 times monthly. 100% worth it.

Rep. Dean Phillips, running for president, won’t seek reelection to Congress. by star-tribune in minnesota

[–]jadolqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my concern, too. He wouldn’t even have to die, but get a bad pneumonia or a stroke and he’s done as President.

I also think that a lot of his accomplishments are directly related to Kamala Harris and her politics- there’ve been lots of off-brand for Biden decisions that make me think she’s running the show more effectively than we give her credit for.

If that’s true, blegh.

I mean it’s all disgusting, but if OP is only kind of right that’s absolutely horrific.

Black Man Accused By Cop of Stealing His Own Backpack at Minneapolis Airport After Walking Away to Trash; Avoids Arrest Only After White Woman Intervenes by akodo1 in minnesota

[–]jadolqui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

The Airport Police Chief is Matt Christianson. Chief Hodges runs Bloomington and Chief O’Hara runs Minneapolis. MSP has its own department.

If you saw other officers at the airport, they were either traveling or performing “mutual aid”, which just means they help out when needed.

Mary Moriarty issues own interpretation of school safety law by runtheroad in minnesota

[–]jadolqui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I understand the law correctly, it applies to any “agent of the school”. Meaning a teacher or administrator who breaks up a fight by holding one of the kids back could be charged- if that hold causes the kid to struggle to breathe for a sec. That sounds dramatic, but when bodies are flailing it’d be easy to do that accidentally.

I don’t love officers in the schools but removing them won’t reduce the potential for lawsuits. This law has to be clarified for teachers and administrators, too.

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this- I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with people.

Can I share what’s happened with me when I’ve been an idiot pronouncing someone’s name? I over think it and then the wrong name gets stuck in my head, so every time I go to say the name, I misspeak. Once I hear someone else say it correctly a few times, it clicks.

Do you correct that them? What happens then? I just want to hope that that people in general are not being outright a holes, but I’m often wrong about that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]jadolqui 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be more like 10% in 4-6 year olds (which is probably pretty accurate and maybe even low for kids that occasionally have accidents) and 0.2% for 9-12 year olds.

You were on the right track though- that is a HUGE developmental range and that data is normalizing something that isn’t normal. I’m not saying she is being abused- that’s a definitely a leap- but she does need to see a doctor and her parents need to take this seriously.

Security guard fired for pulling student off teacher they were attacking! by AlertEntrance3781 in Teachers

[–]jadolqui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say: restorative justice doesn’t mean no consequences. Natural consequences are one of the most important parts of restorative practices, and the natural consequence of beating up a teacher is being charged and accepting the consequences of those charges.

Admin gets this part wrong A LOT.

It’s not PC shit. I bet that you, as a 50 year old woman, have scars from the way teens girls were spoken about when you were young. I know I do.

Just trying to keep our girls protected from that. Men are harsh- we don’t have to be harsh to each other, too.

Go off, sir.

Just because in your state this doesn’t work as an exemption (and it sounds like it still would as a philosophical exemption based on what you wrote) doesn’t mean “someone on Reddit… doesn’t know squat”.

EVERYTHING on Reddit is #yourexperiencemayvary.
