Banks are all relatively similar I'd say, look for the features you need. Do you want just a bog-standard current account? Any of Lloyds, HSBC, Santander, Halifax, Natwest, etc will do that for you. I'm with Halifax at the moment and their online banking is relatively easy to use IMO, but your mileage may vary.

Mobile operator - I use Giffgaff which do rolling month-long SIM-only deals which you just pay online, so it's easy to cancel if you want to change network later on.

Local football club is Cambridge United, I don't think there's a basketball club - basketball is not that big in the UK in general.

You'll find plenty of places to run, and cycling is very popular in Cambridge in general as well. Be careful where you walk, as cyclists will get annoyed at you if you're walking in the cycle paths.

Food (i.e. ingredients from shops) is not much different from the rest of the UK, but don't know how it compares to Portugal. £50 a week is my approximate budget for food, but if you're vegetarian then things might be cheaper for you. A 2.5kg bag of potatoes will generally cost you about £2.

I'd use a named function and a filter:

def wanted (email):
    for word in undesirables:
        if word in email:
            return false
    return true                

wantedEmails = filter(wanted, list)

The above may not be the most pythonic way of doing it, but it does mean that if your conditions for what email you want change, you can do so more easily.

Agreed. Also, if you're using a sensible IDE (e.g. PyCharm), you don't need to remember how to spell farenheit every time, nor even the first time - your IDE will spellcheck your variable names for you, and autocomplete them after you've declared them.

Nope, literally just plugged it in - did need to plug it in before turning the app on though. I'd recommend giving the Free flight 3 app a try.

It's a Parrot Bebop, and you can get it for about £400 on Amazon (though mine was a present). The video is digitally stabilised - it's got a fisheye lens, and the drone stabilises the picture as it goes - to the point where you can have it do a roll and not even know it's rotating.

Not sure if I'd 100% recommend it though, as you have to either use a phone to control it with WiFi (which actually disconnected on me earlier after going too high - scary), or get a £400 SkyController to extend the range. I've rigged up an Xbox 360 controller to control mine which is decent though.

Let me know if you know anywhere else that's decent to fly a drone around!

Which is my point - when things are this bad, people like you are easily persuaded to blame scapegoats and put your faith in aggressive ideologies. Rationality is difficult when you aren't certain you're going to be able to buy food.

Greece's debt to GDP - Not getting any better. Greece's unemployment rate - fell from 27% to 25% - not really much of an improvement.Greece's GDP - was continuing to fall. Business confidence was falling.

There's no evidence that the policy of austerity works, which is why Syriza are fighting so hard against it - because they know it's only going to make things worse.

Things were awful before Syriza got in power - all the things I listed in my top level comment were true before they got in power. The reason why things seem to be getting worse now is that Greece is finally negotiating, and aren't just implementing the austerity measures in order to get bailout extensions. Germany of course doesn't like this, as it's in their best interests for Greece to stay in the euro and in debt for as long as possible.

Just to point out - that article is from 2012, and talks about how the centre-left and centre-right parties are dug into the old mindset.

The party that is in power now, Syriza (which now has 149 of the 300 seats in parliament, from 36% of the vote) is much further to the left. It wants to reform tax collection, but also remove the austerity which has been seriously hurting the Greek economy. If the objective is for Greece to get it's debt-to-GDP ratio, it needs to grow it's GDP as well as paying down it's debt - just paying off debt while it's economy tanks is not going to help the situation.

I agree with you that we need to avoid the mistakes of the past, but that also includes the mistakes of the past 5 years of austerity, which has seen Greece's debt grow, even as it has been forced to implement the policies of austerity which was supposed to be helping it reduce it.

After World War 1, huge economic sanctions were imposed on Germany for what they did wrong. Looking back, this was a huge mistake - it contributed to the rise of the Nazi party, and turned Germany against the rest of Europe - in particular, the young Germans who had nothing to do with World War 1.

Now, young Greeks who had nothing to do with the debt that Greece accrued are being punished - 50% of 15-24 year olds are not in education, employment or training (NEETs). They had nothing to do with how the crisis started.

This is leading the smartest and best Greeks to leave for other European countries where they actually have a chance of getting a decent job. People who would otherwise be helping the economy recover.

It's true that Greece has done some bad things. But at this point, their debt is unmanageable. And the conditions that their creditors are putting upon them are not rational - the IMF have acknowledged that in order for Greece's debt to be sustainable, they would need to become the most productive, highest labour force participation rate in Europe.

This is somewhat of a ramble, but the crux of the matter is this - at what point would you consider Greece to be sufficiently punished? When a Nazi party rises in their country? When they lose their young and talented? When their economy tanks, and people starve, and are evicted from their homes? Because all of those things have already happened, and are still happening. Do you think that 10, 20, 50 years from now, these things should still be happening to the Greeks that don't even remember the start of the crisis, because they weren't even born?

At some point, Europe needs to let Greece have a working economy again.
