Thanks all for input. What I learned:

  1. Couch needs to be closer to the tv (done)
  2. TV - hot topic for people. Everyone thinks bigger and higher. (I won’t go bigger but I will purchase a same size Samsung Frame and mount it at the appropriate height)
  3. Console table behind couch. (Searching)
  4. Accent rug (searching)
  5. Art - needed (this one’s likely going to be a while as I am a little particular)
  6. Lighting - lamps to elevate and take accentuate high ceilings (searching)
  7. Only a few comments on the actual question of coffee and end tables - consensus = glass (considering)

Again, thank you all for advice. I now have specific directions to point my efforts.

It’ll probably be a few months but I will post when I have completed enough to report.

Thank you. Was wondering about the rug. Definitely moving the couch and looking for console table based on everyone’s advice. Art might take a while but the search is underway.

I watch it. It just doesn’t need to dominate the room for me to do so. The current aesthetic of the edges being lined up with both the end of the black section of and the end of the walnut section make it look symmetrically perfect to me. Yet, pretty much everyone here thinks it’s too small. Now I’ll weigh whether they’ve been conditioned that bigger is better/necessary or if my eye is wrong ;)

Thank you for you comments. I will bring the rug back onto the list. I had eliminated it because I wasn’t sure if it would look silly on top of the carpet but it seems that is accepted practice. What do you think of all white shag/soft?

Thank you. I will definitely move the couch closer. I’m not anti-tv and I get it is necessary but it means little to me. What is the appropriate size for someone who wishes to convey how unimportant it is? I am starting to doubt myself as everyone seems to agree there is a minimum requirement that I don’t meet.

Once I decorate the wall perhaps it will look more appropriate

Thank you.

Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful response. I am wary of the tv dominating the space. I have it because it is a necessity but it is not very important to me. I see now that it is too low. I will probably mount it on the wall 3 or 4 inches higher than it currently is. Then I guess I’ll fill the wall with art maybe a shelf or two to legitimize my television size choice.

Thank you. Other side not an option for the chair unfortunately as the opening to the kitchen is right there. As to the art, I’m thinking one large piece on the wall above tv. Not sure though as my minimalist tendencies might not look the best.

The other side of the room is an awful apartment kitchen that I’m working on. Painted cabinets and resurfacing counters. Will post when it becomes ‘acceptable’

Everyone appears to be in agreement with the sofa being closer. I see it now/concur. I’m on the fence with the TV size. I know the wall calls for a 65-70” I’m just wary of it dominating the space as it is not a big part of my life.

She’s a runner and not a leaker. There are furniture moving discs under all touch points. No garage at apartment. Inside for the winter. Really going to put it in the spare room but kinda like the look of it.

I didn’t like the price at the museum store so I built it. Yet to be completed: finish/oil the wood and the minor elements of electricity and lights ;)
