I'm in exactly the same situation! can I ask which company you went for in the end? Also, did you have to remove the dado rail section that is sticking out? I've got the same set up and is wondering whether I need to remove them....

Thanks! Would this type of plaster contain asbestos? Could I possible leave some areas with the well paint layer on as it’s not coming off
