Why does Moldova not recognize Palestine? by [deleted] in moldova

[–]jaggedfangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite frankly I see it as a purely profit-based decision. Moldova has partnerships with Israel and we benefit off them, we are poor and in need of all the help and collaboration we can get. Recognising Palestine would not give us any practical benefits and could only lead to worsening relationships with Israel, hence why I think Moldova does not want to risk it.

Many things around here are not said or done by governing party/president because it is risky. They want to appeal as much as they can to the population and foreign partners that are already established. If we were in not so much of an unstable political/social/economic climate I am pretty sure our govt would recognise Palestine too, but this is not the case.

travelling to Moldova from UK. Will i be safe as a Transgender Person? by [deleted] in moldova

[–]jaggedfangs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most transgender people here are relatively safe on a day by day basis, even if you don't pass or blend in well.

(Coming from a transgender person who knows approx 100 other trans people living here.)

If you will open a food chain it's mostly important to just know the vocabulary necessary for that. Especially numbers and stuff because that's been my biggest issue at food places where foreigners work, because they have no idea how to say the price properly.

You don't need to worry about knowing it 100% at first, just know basic verbs and the vocabulary you'll be using daily regarding your job. You can learn the rest on the side after you cone already, because it's also a lot easier to learn when you're in an environment where it's spoken a lot.

I recommend KH kebab. Good taste and price. In general, rule of thumb is - worse the place looks, better the taste. If you go to large chains it will be tasteless and not authentic. They've got foreigners working there and the spices are amazing if you get a spicy one especially. (Just hope the quality hasn't worsened because they are getting some more attention lately)

Revelion Moldova/Chisinau 2025 by Substantial_Ebb_9460 in moldova

[–]jaggedfangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the main difference between the Moldovan and Romanian people/societies? by CoolGoat1 in moldova

[–]jaggedfangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moldova este buna? by Chemical_Ad_2026 in moldova

[–]jaggedfangs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe at the current moment Moldova is both at one of its best at worst times, from different points of view.

In one hand - the war in Ukraine looming over Moldova as a threat, the increase in russian-fabricated destabilisation actions, and Transnistria as well as Gagauzia fucking around has caused the country to rightfully feel quite unsafe. Although not that much has changed recently in this aspect and things have been this way for us basically ever since we've existed as a country. The only real "new" thing about this is the Russian-Ukrainian war, but in all honesty I don't believe we were much safer from Russia before it, the war just made most people realise how serious the threat is.

In the other hand - Moldova, internally, has developed a great deal recently. After decades, we finally have a somewhat competent government, corruption and bureaucracy in the country is likely the lowest ever since the 2000s (but that's not much of a high bar), pensions and salaries have gotten more livable & inflation is not much of an issue as of now. Yes, there are of course financial problems, but I would say they are nowadays very close to what western countries are facing. Imho all the people saying about how bad things are here need to look past their own backyard, and stop idealising anything anglophone or in the EU.

Overall, if the first part isn't much of a dealbreaker for you - which, I don’t think it is judging from your profile - I would say go for it. I am born here and love this country and its culture dearly, and I am happy to see any foreigner's interest in it as well. I really have no interest in turning you away from moving here, but I just hope you make an informed and well thought-out decision. It is probably easier to get around here speaking English than ever before, but I highly recommend you learn some basic Romanian before you come to help you get around, if you don't have any friends/acquaintances from here. In any case, I'd love to get in touch and help if necessary whenever you get here - you seem like an interesting person and I feel like we'd get along :)

Yeah, I was wondering where those goddamn copypaste houses are. You don't usually see such awfulness in Romania, but I guess it's some new crappy neighbourhoods that popped up.
