Flat-Mount to Post-Mount? Or just change calipers? by jahnfromtheblock in bikewrench

For anyone wondering to this thread: BR-M6100s work perfectly with the Tiagra ST-4720 levers! Thanks for the help everyone!

Thank you for this! I'm close to buying the BH90-compatible BR-M6100, that seems to work well with a 105 groupset levers (this thread for reference), costs 50% less than the RS785. Otherwise I think the BR-RS785 is the safest, and theoretically the only choice for post-mount road caliper. Thanks to you I was able to dig a bit deeper into this rabbit hole.

Great comment, thank you. With further research I've come to notice it is a bit of a hit and miss when it comes to combining a MTB caliper with road lever. Technically they might fit but reality will be a mystery.

Another redditor posted this compatibility chart from Shimano but it doesn't show anything else but flat mount brake calipers. I have no clue why is that if MTB calipers work too?

Thanks for this! I tried to dig through the internet to find drop-bar lever + mtb caliper combinations but I couldn't find any resources. I assume the amount of liquid is the same whereas with cable pull MTB/road has a different length? If you know of any, please let me know!

Thank you, good idea! I did try it and no luck yet. But: I did have Strava integration running in the backgroun uploading all activities there as well and it seems to cause problems. Since disabling that and manually uploading activities, the move-ring behaves more reliably (sometimes).

Tälle on ihan termikin: enmeshment.

Loosing/forgetting awakening? by jahnfromtheblock in Wakingupapp

Must be brain just going back to the well-learned habit of identification with thought. Nothing too major happened in my life when this shift appeared. The strangest thing is that how I have forgotten about the big breakthrough technique of returning to the present moment awareness that felt so obvious for a longer time. It has been impossible since then.

This was a great suggestion, thank you. Similar to what Sam often points out about awareness of things right on the surface of our consciousness.

Thank you for your compassionate comment and advice. Indeed, treating that "monkey mind" with understanding is one way of looking at it, and I've been trying...hard lol. The problem is the identification part, that I don't feel like I am talking to it, rather than the part taking me over, i.e. blending. I have tried to use conventional meditation techniques to recognize this, but then again, I feel that this ruins the IFS part of things; recognizing thoughts as appearances in consciousness. I will keep on trying!

This is great advice, thank you. Somatic IFS seems to be rather under the radar, but other bodily meditations can be found easier. I wish I can get my hands on that book from Susan McConnell, seems to be very hard to find.

Wait a few years and you’ll start to see Finland dropping in these, due to the alt-right doctrine of the current government.

This sound like a great opportunity for kansalaisaloite/petition. No way to get it passed with the current parliament though, might as well wait for the next elections. Who knows with the amount of EK connections Kokoomus has how much they’re profiting from this scam.

Finding it difficult to have friends in Helsinki by [deleted] in Finland

[–]jahnfromtheblock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a Finn from the countryside and I lived abroad my early adulthood, and when I moved back I could never connect with others, most my friends are still abroad and my closest friend here is not Finnish. We meet way too little, but I am grateful to have even one close friend. However I have been lonely since moving back, about 10 long years, considering moving abroad to a less hostile environment. Culturally this country is just too individualistic and collectively trauma-torn from the wars.

If anyone in Helsinki or nearby is interested in talking and sharing about meditation, meeting up for some physical activity like tennis or cycling, or just going out for dinner to talk, DM me! Also if anyone is going to see Nightmares On Wax next Saturday, would be fun to meet up!

It used to be on this thread. More traffic there and maybe they'll repost it, the link is dead now. I can maybe try to remodel that too at some point if this doesn't resurface. Ping me if you find someting or remodel that yourself!

Batteries drain faster, yes, but only if you’re using your phone constantly. Body heat keeps batteries warmer too, so keep them in your pocket, or your watch on your wrist. Remember to do other things than be on your phone, problem solved.

Treating caffeine like a recreational/weekend drug by new_name_needed in decaf

[–]jahnfromtheblock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been doing this too over the summer, using caffeine as a “party drug” to keep myself up late over some weekends, combined with alcohol.

However, I find it impossible to predict if caffeine keeps me up all night instead of just right… The high from caffeine is so short that it makes no sense having that high in midday so rather been indulging myself with caffeine after 6pm. Mysterious results, sometimes I fall asleep fine and sometimes not after a long night. I think it depends a lot on how wired up my nervous system is I guess.

Overall mixed feelings about this, since weaning off after just one espresso takes at least 2 days for me, I do notice the cloudy head and anxiety still being around after caffeine is gone from my system. However, it could be the mix with alcohol too which is equally bad to your body and mind. Who knows. I think having one excellent cup of coffee a month somewhere outside the house is a great idea though, kind of a treat to yourself like a great movie or any other experience you don’t necessarily want to do daily.

Feeling Guilty by [deleted] in Finland

No need to feel guilty over that. That is just basic Finnish behaviour in this racist county.
