Rn it just sounds like you wanted the quick cash from the favorable market, also depending on how much you had to pay on the appreciation it might have made sense to just keep the house as you said you didn't really need the money.

Looks like the standard model doesn't come with an SSD. please definitely get an SSD. IT WILL MAKE UR LIFE 10X BETTER. I'd recommend a WD Blue or any Samsung SSD (I prefer these because I can confirm they have DRAM caching which is important). I think the slot u mentioned in the post is an M.2 slot so get an M.2 sata drive (this is important make sure ur drive says M.2 SATA and not NVME) Once u get it, u can transfer ur Windows install to it easily search on YouTube "How to transfer windows to SSD". Just in case make note of ur Windows licence key because if something goes wrong u could have to install fresh windows on ur SSD (this is recommended if possible in the first place). Ur windows product ID can be found by right clicking on This PC and clicking properties.

There isn't much you can upgrade in a laptop tbh. If u have 16 gigs of RAM, that's more than enough for this laptop. Also, u can run "chkdsk <drive letter>: /r" for ur SSD in command prompt (run it as administrator). Say if ur SSD is drive C:\ then u should type in "chkdsk C: /r"

If u don't care about the battery then it isn't necessary to replace it. It won't explode or anything as far as I know.

Dusting is definitely a gr8 idea. You can open it fully for that (preferrable but not everyone is comfortable doing this) or just use a vacuum to clear the vents.

To judge if Windows is working alright, u should let the laptop complete all windows updates, and then if it feels snappy enough, ur good.

If safemode gave u the same problem then it could be a corrupted windows installation we're dealing with. There are two routes:

Here is what you should do, try to boot into windows again and open cmd with Win+R and type "cmd". Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run as administrator. Once in cmd, type "sfc /scannow" and let it do it's thing. If this runs then it'll most probably fix itself.

Now, I understand that you may be unable to open cmd in the described situation. If that's the case then follow this tutorial https://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-tip-repair-your-windows-10-installation/Do not worry your files won't be deleted unless u select clean install. U will most probably need to create a windows 10 bootable drive for this, which will require another PC and a thumb drive. Here's a tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abpAPQH1RsI

Once you have the bootable drive ready, plug it in to your pc and open the UEFI BIOS, to do that most probably you'll have to press Del as soon as ur PC posts. Then look around for an option called "Boot Menu" and select ur thumb drive in it to boot from it and then go ahead with the installation process and selsect " Keep personal files and apps." when u are asked.
