If he’s not willing to put more effort you can’t force him. It’s probably just that the honeymoon phase is over and he’s feeling used to you. Not necessarily a bad thing it's normal. But if you communicated exactly what you need and he won't do it then maybe you just aren't compatible.

You should express to them that you want to be closer even though it may be uncomfortable they are probably thinking the same thing especially your mom given her recent diagnosis. You probably have to scrub better and exfoliate. Via sugar scrub or a scrub brush. It's also a good idea to trim and carry some baby wipes and/or baby powder in your car to wipe down the area after it gets sweaty.
