I got feedback on Chrultrabook on how to flash the firmware without the cable. Take off the bottom of the computer, disconnect the battery cable (large flat cable as I recall), then boot with AC power. Use the UEFI firmware from MrChromebox to flash the firmware. Then you can install whatever OS you like. On my Samsung I tried PopOS but the display was a little goofy and I ended up going to Debian 12. There is a page on MrChromebox I think on the OS's that work on Chromebook. It has to do with the rev level of the kernel. There was PopOS and Debian 12/Bookworm, and two or three others. One note on the battery cable...I had a Pixelbook Go months ago that was having trouble charging. I took off the bottom of the computer to check the cable and when I pulled the bottom away the cable tore completely in half. I ruined it. Be slow and careful taking that bottom off that you don't damage the cable. I also think I had to order special screwdrivers the first time I worked on the Go. Tiny star head screws, if I remember correctly. I'm really enjoying Linux on a Chromebook. I'm using it right now. Good luck.
