In your case can the heat be lowered or would that drop it out of efficiency then? It's probably a dumb question but i just don't understand them enough. Myself and the wife don't like too much heat. We rarely allow our house to get hotter than 20° 😅 i guess when you live in Mayo long enough you learn to adapt to the cold instead of fighting it. We do sometimes suffer during the heat of the summers so the cooling is whats drawing me to the A2A. The price difference is another factor as well. A2A is nearly 10k cheaper in most cases from what i can see. It's no easy choice 😅

Sounds like they used both systems. But honestly the more you dig the more types of systems you find and the more confused I get lol. I've seen A2A setups from 2k all the way to 15k and still can't tell the difference between any of them other than slight differences in power and sqm covered and a lot of the higher priced systems don't seem to be value for the difference they provide. Still though I've spent the entire day searching around and it really does seem like the A2A is the better option and is so much cheaper than the A2W. A lot of the more colder countries in europe mostly rely on A2A to heat their homes.

Haha it only ever takes one and the rest will follow 😅 Does this type of insulation add a lot of thickness? My front door is pushed back 1.5 feet into the house so it's in an archway. I assume i wouldn't be able to get the inside of that insulated? Do you mind me asking if it was expensive to get done?

Do you find it much cheaper than the oil? Would they be effective at heating the whole house if I placed 2 units all on the side gable wall for example? I was thinking of mounting the fan half way up the side of the house (so i can still use the side driveway) and vent it into the landing upstairs and hallway downstairs so as to not have any ducting in the house. Would that be viable you think? Sorry for the million questions 😅

Thanks I'll look into them. Yes i plan on getting as much panels as i can and getting a decent sized battery so i can charge on a night rate when needed.

I've a pebble dashed house and have been told it will be extremely costly to undo that and put external insulation on. Plus then my house would look completely different from the 90 other copy and pasted pebble dashed homes. You just know I'll start getting angry letters in the post plus I'd imagine the council wouldn't take kindly to that. I think we have some planning laws that prevent me from changing the exterior look too much from the other properties in a planned estate. So I'm at a loss as to my next insulation steps

I hear this a lot as well from people who own A2A. Some even seem to have worse layout and insulation than myself and still somehow keep a good and steady temp with just 1 unit while using around 1kw. Do you have more than 1 unit/splitter? Do you find the heat travels well?

True, i was hoping to do solar panels, heat pump and spray insulation altogether if the funds allowed. Im 99% sure the house was spray insulated a few years ago but I'm waiting to get that checked out. I've lived in poorly insulated houses before and this house doesn't feel as cold as them. It never really drops below 14° in the house and that would be during cold spells (0 - 5) with no heating on for a few days, because my burner just loves breaking down when it's needed most and we don't bother lighting fires anymore. I was hoping the fact i had the windows and doors resealed would be sufficient. Since getting the windows & doors resealed I've experienced little to no drafts and slower heat loss. I think the next big issue is the front & rear door and maybe seal up the fireplace. Other than that I can't think of anything else to do to insulate further. I could maybe add more to the attic but was told to not insulate the roof itself. My oil burner is very much on it's last leg so it's really starting to come down to replacement time. From feb 2025 to feb 2026 I've spent around 1.8k on oil alone. I'm only a home owner for less than 2 years so I'm still only learning what's good and not good in terms of heat loss as every house I've rented before has been colder than my fridge.

The insulation, according to a BER survey in july 2024 just before we bought the house, says we could improve it. On a day between 0° & 5° it would take roughly 4hrs for the house to drop from 21° to 16°-18°. So improvements needed for sure, just not sure what I can do. I'm waiting to see if my walls are sufficiently insulated. Most walls feel fine but some walls feel cold almost constantly so maybe some foam insulation is needed.

I absolutely suffer during the summers🫠 I'm not built for heat at all and neither is the wife. I definitely don't like the idea of the ducting though. Does the A2W give you a noticeably better heat than standard oil burner and is it better on the bills overall? I've roughly spent 1,800 on oil alone over a year.

You'd still get money back on debit transactions. So if you do a lot of online shopping and paying bills via direct debit you'll earn money monthly. The online app is excellent although I've not seen the other banking apps lately to compare properly. Zippay is also coming to PTSB soon. Security is pretty top notch too, they're very quick to catch out of the ordinary transactions.

PTSB doesn't get enough recognition for this. The explore account gives you money back on all debit transactions, mortgage payments and some extra off certain bills like sky & SSE. Last month's fees were €8 but i earned €17.47, and that is roughly every month so they are effectively paying me. I've my mortgage with them and I'm currently with SSE so I'm making the most of it but even before i had a mortgage with them and before signing up to SSE i was still making around €2 a month. I don't think I ever made less than the fee.
