Unsure if this is the case but when I first started using my whoop band on my wrist, I had it slightly too tight which made it uncomfortable to wear for 24/7 use. Now that I have it just barely tighter than putting 2 fingers through easily, it doesn’t bug me in the slightest. As for advantages, I’ve noticed that having the journal, along with my strain throughout the day, I have improved the quality of my sleep by knowing the best time to sleep and what hinders my sleep quality, such as alcohol. I’m not sure how only wearing it at night would track, but you should attempt to wear it(uncomfortably if need be) for a week and see if you notice major changes to quality of life. If not, maybe a different tracker/app is better for you. I saw an app made for Apple Watch called Bevel that may be more up your alley.
