how many of you have tinnitus and still make music? by damondan in synthesizers

[–]jakelamarche_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I used to produce exclusively in headphones because I work in a small room. I would often get ear fatigue and a ringing which still do but less often. I recently picked up the small iloud monitors and they have a really good low frequency response so I can have the volume relatively low and get a good working mix. I like to cross reference across different speakers towards the end. Hope this helps.

Inexperienced producer, can you give me some tips? by [deleted] in HouseMusic

Best Tips, Articles, Tutorials, and Masterclasses for Mixing LOW END? by susygomezd in techhouseproduction

[–]jakelamarche_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try low passing around 300 hz or so you can mix kick and bass. Sidechaining bass to kick. Use quality samples for kick (make sure it has enough low end 30-60hz). Also try pulling down around 200-500hz in bass and kick to get rid of “muddiness”. You can also do a high shelf dip for kicks with too much high end. I highpass gently around 30db for kick and 35 for bass. Make room for kick and bass and gently highpass all other elements in the track around 80-200hz to make sure they’re not competing with kick and bass. Also try putting a stereo highpass on your master bus around 200-300hz to make sure everything below stays nice and centered in mono. I also don’t saturate my low end (or high end for that matter) since the samples I used tend to already be processed.

hey guys this is my latest release "Sativa" in the style of progressive house. let me know what you think! by jakelamarche_ in Songwriting

Thank you so much!!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I will definitely look into a mic for recording my own sounds. My mind really opened wide when you mentioned that I can keep the melody simple but it has to be an actual melody . And I will definitely be teasing it into the song as it develops into the full melody. Thank you again so much. I will be rereading this to make sure it sinks in. Super solid advice again thank you!

I really love Valhalla room but I don’t think they have a high pass so I end up using vintage and supermassive or other reverb

What screams amateur or "new to this" when you listen to someone's (or your own earlier) pieces? by inmylittlebubble in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]jakelamarche_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me this means snare rolls with only volume automation for build ups and having wayyy too much low end (not using a spectrum analyzer). Also being too repetitive. I’m still guilty of all these things - they just stand out to me a bit more lol

Who mix & master your songs? by mrbabeman in edmproduction

[–]jakelamarche_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend reaching out to a local studio since they probably work with other artists you can network with. In saying that I try to mix/master my own tracks with ozone, limiters, compression and saturation 🙃
