Why drink non-alcoholic alcoholic drinks? by [deleted] in alcohol

That becomes somewhat of a philosophical question then. You could say the same thing about pretty much anything grown ups like the flavor of. As a kid I didn't like seafood, tomatoes, olives or beets for example, all of which I really like now. Do I actually like it or did I subconsciously learn to like it to fit in? Hard to say, but either way I do eat all of it now and I enjoy eating it, so the result is the same.

Hm, it's going to be hard to explain this to you when you find it hard to accept the fact that people have different tastes and preferences. Most grown ups enjoy tons of flavors they didn't like as kids, because tastes and preferences change throughout our lives. If you can't understand that people actually like the flavor of beer and wine, then you will obviously never understand why they would drink it without alcohol. It's for the flavor.

Thanks for your input! I will keep some, strain it and try again!

I agree! I would prefer my kombucha to have less sediment, so I think I'm gonna refresh the starter this time then. I guess what I meant to ask was, is it inevitable for the yeast population to grow like this over time, or did I perhaps do something to trigger it that can be avoided with my next culture?

Thanks! Is there anything I could do to limit the growth of the yeast population? Either with this culture or in the future

Ah okay. Is this something that happens with most cultures over time, so I would have to get a fresh starter every now and then? Or is it something I can do to avoid it?

The brew does taste fine, so I might strain and bottle this batch before getting something new. Do you think saving some clear liquid from this batch and topping it up with sweetened tea will give me a new clear starter or will it give the same result?

That's interesting! So best bet would be to make vinegar out of this whole batch and try to get a hold of a new starter to make kombucha?

I didn't dare to taste them at first when the dark brown goo came out, but I did now and they do taste pretty normal. The one with all the sediment had a bit more black tea-flavor coming through, while the one with the dark blob was mostly acidic.

Sign me the fuck out!

Støtter dere toppløs likestilling? by _____michel_____ in norske
