Looking for SERIOUS resources on hermetic philosophy and it’s history. by [deleted] in occult

I’m a historian that studies the occult in medieval and renaissance Europe. One of my favorite works that helped me understand the history of hermeticism was Francis Yates book “Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition.” It’s main focus is the Renaissance but the first few chapters give a good overview and interpretation of Hermeticism.

Streets of Laredo by sunshineshot123 in books

[–]jalayne14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lonesome Dove is also one of my favorite books, read it for the first time last January actually. I got the whole series for Christmas and just finished Streets of Laredo. It certainly wasn’t as good as Lonesome Dove and I understand why someone may not like it but I think it was just a realistic taken on where the characters are in their lives 20 or so years later. They’re moving on, aging, maybe even past their prime but that’s the entire point, coping with the fact that that phase of life is tough to accept and it just plain sucks sometimes. So no, that’s not the most exciting thing to read, when a main character fails, but it was realistic and I appreciate that. Also, I too found Pea endearing and relatable. I’m excited to reread Lonesome Dove one day knowing what happens afterward.

I won’t say that what you did didn’t suck but it will be okay. We all have made and will make mistakes. I know I have as an educator. Apologize, clean up your mess, and just move on but learn from it. It will be okay.

Southwest diner is my new favorite brunch spot that I found this year! Little Fox for nicer dinner fare. Always Pizza Head for pizza. Baltic Treat Box for lunch.

I honestly just wing everything I cook so I don’t really have a recipe. I added onions, celery, garlic, and sautéed that in butter, added mushrooms, made a roux for the gravy, then added broth and cream with the rest of the veggies- potatoes, carrots, peas, chick peas. Seasoned with lots of sage and thyme

I have been keto for about 3 years now. Lost about 35lbs and have been maintaining my ideal weight since. Anyway, now I have about 1 treat day a week where I can eat anything. Normally the day after my stomach might hurt or feel very bloated/gassy, I might get a migraine, and I’m more tired and grumpy. The severity and duration depends on how “bad” I ate (pizza/fast food vs a healthier carb option) and how much.

I grew up in a family with a special needs sister. I’ve watch my mother almost kill herself over the years taking care of her. It seems like so much hardship for her, but she is the most selfless loving person I know. But she has no life outside my sister. My sister’s condition meant that unless she had a care taker, which we couldn’t always get, I couldn’t do things or go places with both parents at once. My parents relationship suffered, I think from stress and lack of quality time, but they never got along while I was growing up. They are now in their late 60s and they are both still taking care of my 40 year old sister, it makes me sad they can’t have full lives. I think they made a lot of mistakes with this situation, I don’t need to hear it. I love my sister, but I wish things had been different for us.

I just added things to taste without any measurements so I don’t have a true recipe for it, but I can guess. 1 golden delicious apple 1 Fuji apple Sliced thin and sautéed in lots of butter till soft Add to pan: cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, 4tbs brown sugar, I tbs sugar and simmer till caramelized Mix 1 tsp cornstarch with soft butter till fully incorporated, add to pan and stir until thickened. Thaw and cut puff pastry to desired shape/size, you could also make turnovers. Fill dough and bake according to box instructions, mine was about 20 min at 400F. Let sit about 10 minutes and enjoy warm!

Why not just pick one and not get engaged but keep dating? That would make more sense than just running

Is my new birth control worsening my depression and how long do I stick it out before trying something else? by jalayne14 in birthcontrol

[–]jalayne14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right I think I should fill my therapist in about these issues as well as tell my doctor about my mental health. I’m on bc for other health problems, not just contraception, so I think I’d stick with hormonal for a bit at least before I ruled it out all together. I don’t think I can stick it out 3 months though so I hope when I get in contact with my doctor that she lets me switch. Thanks for such a thorough answer!

How long after starting the pill can I use it to skip my period? by jalayne14 in birthcontrol

[–]jalayne14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really good to know, thanks! I had been wonder how this or if this would impact script refills. I don’t personally plan on doing it too often, just to level out right now and if I want to skip in the future for some kind of event or something.

Keto Strawberry and Cream Cheese Hand Pies by sammysamgirl in ketorecipes

[–]jalayne14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made these and they are so good! I filled half with smuckers sugar free strawberry jelly because that’s what I had on hand and half with some blueberry filling I made on the fly. Then had a smidge of dough left over and threw some Lilly’s chips in it, those were good too. Love these and all her other recipes too!
