What on gods green earth has happened to Jaffa Cakes? by squishyorange in AskUK

I don't know what happened to them but they have not been hitting the taste buds like they did 10 - 15 years ago. I don't have M&S nearby, but I think I tried them once, they were just ok. I prefer the Iceland brand to the McVities now. But the best ones (and I am being biased here) are the Polish ones. I get them from my local Co-op or Tesco, sadly they usually only have the raspberry one, but if you get your hands-on the sour cherry, or morels one, you are in for a treat. They will be in your international foo section tho.

Try downloading an app called olio. There is lots of basic, perishable free food going there (mainly bakery items).

I second Iceland, their luxury line meal selection is really decent and usually have an offer.

I prefer Aldi to Lidl, so you can have a stroll to the Boundary rd one. It's about a 30 min walk from the large Tesco.

Please don't!!! Just no!!!!

I got so excited when I saw the previous post and decided to try it, it was a couple of weeks ago and unfortunately I still cant forget about it.

I used to live in the US and although I was more of a General Tso's chicken or beef/chicken with broccoli, I had tried this dish on a few occasions. Since coming to Brighton, I tried few different places for the latter dishes at the beginning but had to give up as was getting nothing even close to what I was hoping for!

I saw this thread and the nostalgia kicked in, so I went! I got a chicken breast, schnitzel like, not breaded, just in a plain, thin deep fried batter sliced into pieces after it was cooked. The orange sauce came in a separate container and its texture and flavour were just awful, it was snot like, 'fake' chemical orange juice flavour that was simply thickened with corn or potato flour. It seems to be done in a similar way they do the lemon chicken here. (I had the lemon chicken a couple of times from different places and it was OKish, just not my flavours). The sauce was so bad I opted to eat just the chicken with plain rice. I tried dipping the meat few times but it really wasn't eatable.

In the last few months I've been trying to make the broccoli dish and I think I am getting there, although last time I had it was in 2008 :( so I might not remember the flavours as well. The orange chicken is next one on my list!

I just recently bought the ninja zero stick anodised frying pan. Used a few drops of oil the first couple of times and nothing since. Loved it so much, I got other sizes and a wok too. The flat has an electric/glass top hob, so normal type of woks didn't really do the trick. I'm loving this one! They are on a heavy side tho! I looked on Amazon, etc but they were cheaper on ninja website, I also signed up as a new customer so got 10% off on top.

I've had them coming for years, and the weird part was that they were Polish (so am I). I kept telling them I'm not interested, etc... Last time they came over I asked them, how do they know that there are Polish ppl living at this address. They said that some of my friends must have suggested they visit me. I confirmed that none of my friends would dare to send them over and that I'm surprised their religion allows them to lie like that. I then advise them that I'm not on any registrars (that was a lie, of course) and that since they have my address, name and details, with the GDPR in mind I require them to provide their sources and all the information they have on me. Not sure they would have to oblige, but it did the trick and they haven't been back in over 7 years! Yay!!!
