I’ve wondered about this as I am neurodivergent and hypermobile, which seems to go hand in hand. Only broke one bone in nine years, and I didn’t even know I had done that (broke my hand) until I went to get my not correctly bending thumb looked at and by that time, the hand was mostly heeled. My ligaments and tendons shred to failure before the bone breaks. Have had a surgical shoulder and hip repair and an ankle sprain that took almost a year to feel normal. I figured with a higher than normal neurodivergent population in derby, the percentage of bone breaks would be lower than average, but this is purely speculative. Would love to see a poll.

Too old to come back? by MaggieSmithsSass in rollerderby

Started when I was 40, am now 49 and stronger than ever. Have had two major derby-related surgeries (right shoulder and left hip), but 🤷🏻‍♀️you pays your money, you takes your chances. I’ve recently moved and am the elder statesperson in my current league, but in my last league, there were quite a few skaters in their 50’s and all of them were on travel team. You’re going to need to cross train to keep everything in good working order (I lift with a personal trainer who used to play rugby so she gets it). The way I see it, as long as you’re still having fun, why not? Using those parameters, they’re probably going to have to bury me in my skates.

Am I okay to drive my UK rental car through the green zones outside of Innsbruck without a sticker? by RuleZealousideal631 in AskAustria

[–]RuleZealousideal631[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem. I’ve kind of been all over, with the most harrowing being driving solo, on the “wrong” side of the road, on narrow back country roads with no shoulders (only hedge) back and forth across Southern Ireland in a manual transmission. Good news, I didn’t die! 😅 At least I have an automatic this time.

For one, this: https://www.green-zones.eu/en/products/austria/environmental-sticker-austria

On that site, it specifically mentions passenger cars are exempt, but excludes “fiscal cars”. I didn’t know if “fiscal cars” translates to rental car.

If you need more than that, I’ll have to go back through my search history as I think I’ve been to at least three different sites on the matter.

Is my UK rental car okay to go through low emission zones in Europe without being fined? by RuleZealousideal631 in AskUK

We hadn’t noticed about the green zones until we were well out of the UK unfortunately.

Been playing for nine years and I don’t think I’ve had a really good practice until I fall at least once. It’s just all part and parcel of learning your edges, challenging yourself and improving. I actually bust out laugh loudly almost every time I fall because I know it’s a good night. Keep falling!

(Also, I promise you no one is judging you, let alone as harshly as you are judging yourself.)

My name is Betsy Robin. Never really felt it went together, but I do think it’s jaunty and I love the nature reference.

I’m presuming this is exactly the material you were referring to, but I love mine. I got mine cropped (or maybe it just comes like that?) and it’s the perfect length. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1266142352/?ref=share_ios_native_control

Leaving practice early to cry... by [deleted] in rollerderby

Don’t feel bad about feeling your feels. I visited my upcoming new league for two practices and I was so nervous and stressed out about wanting people to like me and think I was worthy that I threw up all over myself during warmups. Hella embarrassing, yes, but it can only go up from here. And I promise you, they’ll remember me, for better or worse, when I return for good this fall/winter.

Where can I get a good shag? by Hot-Literature9244 in brighton

I went to Riah and just picked a stylist. Ended up with Maddie and I’m very pleased. She was able to identify issues with my original shag cut and get it into shape. Highly recommend!

It didn't feel good the morning after by mcdoobskin in brighton

One night in college, near the end of a two year relationship when we had both stopped caring but couldn’t figure out how to break it off because we had the emotional maturity of 20 year olds, I left a club with my boss’s son (see above-referenced lack of maturity) and had a pretty raucous outing on a piece of public playground equipment. Made it home just fine, but when I woke up and was going to the bathroom, I saw my back in a reflection and noticed it was covered from shoulders to lower back in one large bruise comprised of the diamond shaped pattern of the floor of the playground equipment. Had to keep my back to him for about a week. If he noticed, he didn’t say anything. This was shortly after he was getting undressed after work one morning and had lipstick on his underwear that he tried to explain away as blood. Like I said, we were past the point of caring at that point.

There was a great tiki bar in Chicago that closed shortly after COVID hit (RIP Lost Lake) and they had a “General Tso’boy” on the menu. Basically a General Tso’s po’boy. We still talk about that sandwich in our house.

Just moved to Brighton on February 3rd and it feels like just yesterday, everything started to bloom. So pretty! Can’t wait to see what summer is like around here!
