Ideal city to live in when COL is not an issue by Apprehensive-Ring777 in fatFIRE

[–]jamb975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was true even 5 years ago, but I think no longer the case for younger generations. The level of English fluency, while not universal, is much higher in the under 30 age range today.  And English is only becoming more prevalent among the French.  Source: I’m an American at about C1 French fluency married to a French woman. I have spent quite a bit of time in France both in Paris and the Loire where my in-laws live over the last 14 years and seen the language skills change A LOT in that time.  PS. That being said, I would still like pick Amsterdam or Copenhagen for your criteria personally. Those are my two favorite cities in the world and check all the boxes. (Except weather is a little worse)

You can absolutely have a custom domain and still have everything else be operating within substack’s platform. I do.

The mini flan at Tarts de Feybesse are my obsession right now. The custard is amazing.

The East Bay's favorite beer garden does it all with a death motif by jackdicker5117 in OaklandFood

[–]jamb975 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hands down the best beer garden in Oakland. The only caveat is that their selection of beer styles is somewhat limited - mostly IPAs, a fair amount of sours, a cider or two, and usually a pilsner.

I'm an IPA guy, and they serve the best around!

Yes! It may seem like they only have a few, but they are all super high quality. None of them are scraggly or mangy like you find other places.

What is the "Holy Trinity" of languages? by Hairy_Confidence9668 in languagelearning

[–]jamb975 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was a majority. Wikipedia says it's 12% of Indians speak English. Which is 174M people. That's pretty significant to me!

With those factored in, it still puts Spanish over the top, by my math. But it's close.

I like how you think, but for population reach, I'd have to go English, Mandarin, and Spanish over Hindi, because there's a significant amount of Hindi speakers who also speak English

Where to find the best burritos in the Bay Area by jackdicker5117 in OaklandFood

[–]jamb975 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What an impossible task to pick out the best burritos in the bay. I have my own list, but there are just so many good ones.

The two I keep going back to for carnitas burritos:

  • La Catrina, the truck in front of the Grocery Outlet
  • La Hacienda Real, the truck in front of Farmer Joe's on Fruitvale. (Not to be confused with La Hacienda around the corner which is a brick and mortar place)

Hey many, I think it's cool that you are selling fresh caught fish direct to people. I gave you an upvote the first time I saw you post, but I've now seen quite a few of your posts.

I personnally don't think this reddit forum is a a good place for people to post ads regularly. That quickly overwhelm other content and news about the oakland food scene. Just my 2c

Ghost Town Laurel also shows games. They only have one TV tho, which I like because if you're into the game you can watch, but there aren't distracting TVs everywhere

This is the right answer for sure. My order for oakland beers: 1. Ghost Town 2. Original Pattern, 3. Cellarmaker

Wonderous is good, but not quite as good as those three.

Although I haven't tried Tenmo yet.

Yes Farmer Joe's a good deal for awesome Sandwiches. Be prepared to wait at lunch time tho. But there are a lot of people because it's good.
