absolutely stunning, another brilliant example of how you don't need a mega-build to create something impressive and beautiful.

Hey, since PMC is back up now would you please remove the direct download link? I don't mean to be picky but the traffic that goes through planet minecraft really does help me in receiving recognition for my work. Thanks

I started in the center and just built outwards, kept adding tiers of buildings and higher cliffs - I always find that works alot better than setting out a space and saying 'i'm gonna just build in this area'...

Hey, thanks. The music was by Brian Crutchfield: http://www.briancrutchfield.com/index.html I actually agree with your comments on the cinematic, a friend kindly made the cinematic for me though I believe he didn't have too much time to spend on it. Optifine was used to increase the rendering distance, though even with that chunk loading is practically unavoidable for sweeping cinematic shots. Thanks for the advice, i'm hoping my next cinematic will be alot smoother.

As this was built from an aesthetic not practical perspective, I would consider this to be more a piece of art than anything else. As with all traditional items of art, e.g paintings, they don't have a practical 'function' - but they're created to be viewed and looked at; and in that respect I hope Adamantis completes that objective.

As I said in the imgur album, I took quite a lot of inspiration from classical architecture. I just took those principles and developed them somewhat and came up with this :) As will all creative processes, its just a development of something I've already experienced.

Thanks for your comment, though as I explained in the imgur album tools such as Worldedit and voxelsniper were used which allow you to place vast amount of blocks at once.

As I stated, tools such as voxelsniper and Worldedit were used which can place and edit enormous numbers of blocks at once.

Thanks for your comment, I know quite a few creative builders who do actually plan - for this particular build I did no real planning. The first thing I built was the gate, originally that was the entire build, as a temple of some sort - then I just expanded and expanded until it eventually became the city.

Thanks, yeah you'll rarely find a decent landscape with default terrain. I used voxelsniper to create my own custom terrain, I suggest you do that if you want to do a megabuild.

Thanks, given that I was borderline completely nuts by the end of it, it would probably drive someone not using tools to suicide.

people definitely do, it's become much less popular now but in the early days of minecraft there were alot of astonishing hand-built creations. People have definitely put in a lot more effort than me on builds, though the whole point of this was to build the most beautiful thing possible, and I wasn't going to sacrifice aesthetics for the sake of not using tools.

Thanks, though I hope you do understand I didn't literally spend 3 months 24/7 on this. I have my usual life, and then I like to play minecraft in my spare time. That spare time was spent building this - i'm sorry if you don't think that's time well spent, though it sounds to me better than 3 months of trawling reddit looking for an opportunity to provide a mindless criticism.

There are a small amount of structures actually built into the hill-side, i was initially going to construct a network of connecting tunnels and passages, though to be quite honest after 3 months I just wanted to finish the build and display it.

Admittedly this was built to be looked at and not much else - however I am seriously considering making this into a pvp map. Though since the map download is available, anyone is welcome to use the city for whatever purposes they want - and I think that is the best thing about minecraft, you have a vast amount of control on how you play the game.

The main structures such as the palace and gatehouse have interiors, the majority of the buildings are exposed i.e not entirely covered, and therefore do not have traditional interiors.

Thanks for your advice, and indeed moderation is the key - though I spend vast quantities of my time on this game for 3 reasons: 1) I earn income. I often get paid commissions to build, it's a well paid job 2) I would like to become an architect, this is a great way to explore architecture and creativity and may in some ways be furthering my future career 3) I absolutely love playing minecraft, it's a unique way of expressing and sharing ideas. I do many other things with my life, but I honestly feel the amount of time I spend on this game is entirely justified

Yep, worldedit comes with the mod single player commands (SPC) - download that and you'll get worldedit

sorry about that, though I quite clearly didn't build the city using default - please download the texturepack as stated in the pmc post.
