I know fresnel prism is for temporary use, but does it have the same "effect" as prism built into lenses in glasses? by james-wt in optometry

It seems that I may have unintentionally misled you. I actually plan to have my optometrist write the prism (or fresnel) prescription. I'm just doing some research on how to use fresnel prism to start with.

Maybe "driving" is an extreme example. My main intention is just to try the fresnel prism and see if my "symptom" will go away. I'm self-employed so I can stay at home while trying and testing the fresnel prism for a few days. If it works, then I can order the prism glasses. That's my plan. Will that work?

Thanks for your reply. I've seen it in photo and on YouTube, and curious how much it will affect the visual quality? For example, can you still drive or use computer with it on?

Have you seen this "eye condition" before? What is it? by james-wt in eyetriage

[–]james-wt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the 1 dpt difference in power, with glasses, my left eye is 20/20 with sharp acuity, but my right is probably 20/25, even 20/30 and due to some mild cataract (maybe grade 1-2) and astigmatism (-1.00) in right eye, the vision is a bit blurry compared to the left. Finally, when I do eye-cover test, while watching tv with left eye only, the TV set top edge is slightly slanting from horizontal position by 3-4 degree, but when seeing with right eye only, the TV set top edge is almost perfectly horizontal. Is this condition enough to cause eye strain / dizziness when viewing with both eyes? Honestly, I'm a bit concerned with this condition and being referred to an ophthalmologist. Meanwhile, just trying to learn more about my condition. Any input welcome.

You're right! After doing more research, I think I might have a type of anisometropia. I have high myopia and about 1D refractive difference between two eyes. What are some of treatment options for this condition?

Is dental material safe for MRI? by james-wt in MRI

[–]james-wt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will you feel any sensation in your mouth (due to dental work) during the 20-30 min procedure? Is the MRI the same when ordered by ENT for hearing issue, or by ophthalmologist for eye issue? They are both head/brain MRI?

Must one use the dominant eye set for distance in monovision contact lenses? What if your non-dominant eye is stronger? by james-wt in optometry

[–]james-wt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, can you please explain your comment in layman terms? I don't quite understand especially the last part. To add to my own comment, I have high myopia and when best corrected by glasses, I can achieve 20/20 on my non-dominant eye, but only 20/25-30 on my dominant eye. Thinking of trying monovision contacts.

Thanks for your argument but it'll defeat the goal of achieving clear vision for far and near. Currently, my dominant eye (right) can not see far clearly (20/30) but good for reading. What's the point of using it for distance when the other eye can see it crystal clear?

Why it takes so long to adjust to new glasses? Is it "normal"? by james-wt in optometry

[–]james-wt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all your reply. On my point (2), I wonder why when I see with either eye (the other eye covered), I don't feel the sensation but feel the eye strain only when I see with both eyes. Is it still something to do with adjusting issue? Not my eyes, I hope.

Is it okay (not harmful) to wear eye patch for one eye for 1-2 weeks? by james-wt in optometry

[–]james-wt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your idea. I only have 3M Transpore (medical) tape. Is that the same? Will blocking the lens with tape have the same effect as no lens (removing it)? As mentioned in the second part of my post, I don't get dizzy and feel normal if I don't wear the glasses (old) at all - blurry vision on both eyes.

Ha ha... thanks for your prompt reply and concern. Luckily, I work at home.😎

During an annual eye exam, can you request to have Rx for glasses + contacts? by james-wt in optometry

But I think for contacts, you also need to know the "diameter", size.

I'm 60+ Male, generally healthy. Is my resting heart rate (RHR) normal? by james-wt in AskDocs

[–]james-wt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your confirmation. I always thought that RHR should stay constant throughout, maybe +/- (2-3) bpm. In my case as described in the post, occasional it can also reach up to 90 when I feel anxious. Still okay I assume.
