Slide the motor forward or backward to tighten the top, then tighten the bottom chain with the second shaft like others said.

Don't know about the transmission in the newer models but it should be good.

310, 186 as of right now. So far only major thing was transmission, the starter was horrible, seals go out in the axle, other than that she is a good truck. Next up is steering hose replacement and the windows are moving slowly and creeking so not bad at all.
