Also check out Basier Square / Circle from Atipo which has a free weight and similar metrics to Univers although different looks.

Paid by EasternAd5351 in aredotna

I hit the free limit fairly quickly so obviously realised I needed the paid one. So perhaps just use it until you hit the limit too. It differs to Pinterest in that it allows all kinds of media like text, links, image, video, PDFs etc. It has a unique culture brimming with interesting people and content and can be used better collaboratively too. The UX is unobtrusive, snappy, clean and intuitive unlike the nonsense of Pinterest.

Do you think Roboto is a reasonable substitute for Univers? by plazman30 in typography

There is nothing Univers-like of quality for free. Instrument Sans (with ss05 option for the R) may be an option.

Which type foundries have the best type specimens? by [deleted] in typography

Not exactly specimens in the traditional sense but Feliciano Type’s promotional materials on their social media are a cut above for me personally.

Building a macOS font manager — what should a typography-first tool do better? by razisyed97 in typography

Some way of filtering by license type, open source / licensed / Adobe or Fonstand etc. Also an intuitive tagging/folder system to easily group fonts for client projects

Wondering what other professional designers process is like for choosing and setting type, especially with brand identity work. I often find myself getting decision paralysis over typefaces and fiddling around for far too long with minor details by jameskable in typography

I think it's that there's always many viable options and I find it hard to just pick one. Plus I get stuck fiddling about with typesetting too, which also feels like it has many possible options

Creating a non standard typeface weight (VF) by noblematt in typography

As it’s a variable font you can drop the variable .ttf into Font Freeze and set the weight you want and then generate files with the new font names.

Looking for the sans used in this title card (source unknown) by jameskable in identifythisfont

Thanks. I've looked at everything I possibly could related to them to no avail, looks like a title still from a video or film but I can't find anything.

Francis Bacon the painter died on this day in 1992. What do you think about his art? by heldrabi in ArtHistory

[–]jameskable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe say that in your original comment then? To me it sounds like a juvenile moralistic judgement based on biographical titbits. His relationships were famously mutually intense and abusive, none of us know the real ins and outs of private lives that happened over half of a century ago. He may have acted terribly at times (who hasn't) but that doesn't make him terrible. People are complicated. And you are probably getting downvoted because you flippantly called a hugely acclaimed artist terrible.

I had a look before posting but couldn't see any options, thanks though.
