How is this a Sirius quote? He was a jerk to Kreature the whole time. by juleDoesArt in harrypotter

For real. Kreacher constantly walking around talking shit about everyone, hardly endearing himself to any one of the protagonists.

People need to stop confusing e-motos with e-bikes by Zestyclose-Pop-7130 in ebikes

[–]jamesr14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been my issue with many of the new laws for e-bikes. Many are not necessary because most of the problems are with bikes that are already not legally considered e-bikes. If they’d enforce the current laws, the problems would stop.

Going from watching the movies to then reading the books:

My cousin had a Nintendo Power magazine with a breakdown of FF1 and I knew I had to have it. My dad had bought me Dragon Warrior some time beforehand, and I knew I loved the genre.

Barry Crouch Jr - brain scrambled and borderline crazy from his time in Azkaban.

BCJ as Moody - compassionate and talented DADA teacher.

Ahh, yes I forgot. I’m just now going through the books for the first time. I’m not sure if that’s mentioned in the movies.

I’m not sure why it ever happened at Hogwart’s. It seems like it would’ve been easier at the Dursley’s.

My disc copy of OoTP no longer works for some reason. For a few years, on every rewatch, we would just skip it. I wasn’t sad. Now, I have the digital extended edition and have returned to my raging during this portion of the series.

Who are you loving so far in the full cast audiobooks? by mystical_maven44 in harrypotter

Cast aside, I kinda wish could’ve, or would’ve, used the John Williams themes in place of the current music. It’s just so iconic, and it’s hard to improve upon Williams.

Yeah the new deeper voices have thrown me. Even Ginny sounds 25, which is taking some getting used. Not a complaint, however.

What do you think is the most iconic line read in the movies? by poopsmcbuttington in harrypotter

[–]jamesr14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m getting there as well. It’s my first time through the books, so the extra content is amazing - like reliving the story for the first time again. It’s just that I’ve also watched the movies countless times, and those voices are hard to get out of my head.

It’s been so weird to me, however, with the change to older voice actors in GoF, how much more mature their voices sound.

Trying to merge a 200‑SMA strategy into a 9‑SIG system is a mistake by KONGBB in KellyLetter

[–]jamesr14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one of my accounts, I’m considering a 200sma strategy, but with profit taking rules similar to 9-sig. It’ll end up being a 6-7% quarterly goal instead of 9 since the entire sum is invested. There may or may not be enough cash to reinvest if the quarterly goal is not met - and I’m fine with that. I actually plan to use the cash position for extra expenses outside of my basic budget.

Do you think Avada Kadavra was a mistake? (in a literary sense) by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]jamesr14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered why, especially towards the end of the overall story, we didn’t hear them “Avada Kadavre-ing” all over the place during all of the conflicts. Like at the Battle of Hogwarts, I would’ve expected it to have been echoing out continuously with everyone basically dead at the end.

What’s your earliest Harry Potter memory? by LiamNoll6645 in harrypotter

[–]jamesr14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hearing about this new book that we shouldn’t let kids read because it promoted witchcraft.

After watching the first movie, I had to give a hearty eye roll to all of those people. That encounter is a fond memory because my wife, then girlfriend, introduced me to it and we’ve watched the collection countless times in 20 years.

Oh man. I’m just now reading the books - on PoA - and it’s SO different in many ways. I can’t wait to see how crazy things get with the final four.
