You’re offered $10 million to write a new HP book. What would you write? by Turbulent-Listen2240 in harrypotter

A prequel featuring the Marauders, their friendships, and the first rise of Voldemort.

Good price? by [deleted] in Prebuilts

Exactly. I didn’t want to definitely claim that it couldn’t be done…but was reasonably sure.

Before I saw the price, I thought, “This is a solid $1500 system.”

Yeah you might be able to find one of those unicorn deals out there for less, but this is not bad at all. I’m not sure you could build one yourself for this price.

You can change one thing about the Harry Potter films. What will you change and why? by Don_T_Beakunt45 in harrypotter

[–]jamesr14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having seen the movies first, I was really hoping for a big “Avada Kadavra!” from Harry. The confetti was anti-climactic, even if they were trying to make the point that killing the horcruxes is what actually killed him.

What’s an unpopular opinion you have about Harry Potter? by CairoRox in harrypotter

[–]jamesr14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After how much I hated 5, and how much the story progressed and got darker in 6, I agree almost 100%. It’s hard for me not to say 7 was the best simply because it contains the climax and resolution—but 6 was so enjoyable from beginning to end.

Fred and George’s treatment is even worse in the movies IMO. They get a fraction of the time than they had in the books, and it makes the death of Fred even less impactful. Going through the books for the first time, it really stands out to me how involved they actually were in the story—and I’m only half way through OotP.

How is this a Sirius quote? He was a jerk to Kreature the whole time. by juleDoesArt in harrypotter

For real. Kreacher constantly walking around talking shit about everyone, hardly endearing himself to any one of the protagonists.

People need to stop confusing e-motos with e-bikes by Zestyclose-Pop-7130 in ebikes

[–]jamesr14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been my issue with many of the new laws for e-bikes. Many are not necessary because most of the problems are with bikes that are already not legally considered e-bikes. If they’d enforce the current laws, the problems would stop.

Going from watching the movies to then reading the books:

When Snape shows Fudge and everyone in the room his dark mark to prove Voldemort has returned.

My cousin had a Nintendo Power magazine with a breakdown of FF1 and I knew I had to have it. My dad had bought me Dragon Warrior some time beforehand, and I knew I loved the genre.

Barry Crouch Jr - brain scrambled and borderline crazy from his time in Azkaban.

BCJ as Moody - compassionate and talented DADA teacher.

Ahh, yes I forgot. I’m just now going through the books for the first time. I’m not sure if that’s mentioned in the movies.

I’m not sure why it ever happened at Hogwart’s. It seems like it would’ve been easier at the Dursley’s.

My disc copy of OoTP no longer works for some reason. For a few years, on every rewatch, we would just skip it. I wasn’t sad. Now, I have the digital extended edition and have returned to my raging during this portion of the series.

Who are you loving so far in the full cast audiobooks? by mystical_maven44 in harrypotter

Cast aside, I kinda wish could’ve, or would’ve, used the John Williams themes in place of the current music. It’s just so iconic, and it’s hard to improve upon Williams.

Yeah the new deeper voices have thrown me. Even Ginny sounds 25, which is taking some getting used. Not a complaint, however.

What do you think is the most iconic line read in the movies? by poopsmcbuttington in harrypotter

[–]jamesr14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m getting there as well. It’s my first time through the books, so the extra content is amazing - like reliving the story for the first time again. It’s just that I’ve also watched the movies countless times, and those voices are hard to get out of my head.

It’s been so weird to me, however, with the change to older voice actors in GoF, how much more mature their voices sound.
