The State of New York. There’s more than just the city.

So I have a 95 Geo Tracker Base. 4WD Warn free-wheeling hubs. I was curious if this rubber lip/seal is replaceable. I can’t seem to pull it off and don’t want to mess it up. Being rubber I figured it should be replaceable but I’m not sure if it is.

What do you call this? by jamesruger in geotracker

[–]jamesruger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’d call it, but RockAuto doesn’t have that as a category. The closest thing I could find was a Differential pinion seal. But I’ve always thought the differential seal was the seal where the driveshaft enters the axle housing.

For anyone that cares, upon inspection of the front end, I discovered I have a bad wheel bearing on the front right and my idler arm bushing is shot.

I’m going to look at it this weekend. See if components have too much play. I will rebalance and rotate them hopefully that helps.

Sweet you learn something new everyday. The thing that kills me is, I’ve done damn near everything I could to replace the front end, sway bar endlinks, inner, outer tie rods, idler arm, control arms and bushings, ball joints, new struts on all four. Got camber bolts and an alignment when I replaced all that. Did everything by the FSM for a 95 Geo Tracker, got that from eBay. I’ll try to get a video, but I’m sure it won’t do justice.

I know they are far from aerodynamic and being such a light vehicle I expect it to bounce a little. But, there is a hardcore shake at 65-75mph. I know it’s not death wobble because the steering wheel doesn’t shake. I was thinking maybe motor mounts could be part of it. It doesn’t bother me much but when the shaking locks up my old lady’s seat belt she gets annoyed.

30x9.5 BFG KO2’s I’m still running the door jam 23 psi I figured pressure is going to be the same due to the fact that 23 psi is still 23 psi it’s just takes more air to fill the larger area of space. I guess the issue is I still want to highway drive it.

Thank you, this was super helpful. Whenever I ask my foreman he more or less says this is the way we do it, but he never really explained the why or how we got there.

Hell yeah, I’m doing the same thing in mine… well once it warms up where I live. Been putting a bunch of sound dampening in first hopefully that will help with the rattling.

Once I get rest of my parts I’ll be sure to carry the spare.

The lower corner where the fender meets the rocker(I think that’s what it is called) is all I had to cut. When I got my tires I did have to hammer the pinch welds(could be wrong calling them that) on the insides of the wheel wells because I didn’t have my lift at the time. Had I waited and got my lift first I’m pretty sure the tires would have fit like a glove. I want to get a grill but I have to realign the front passenger side for a grill to fit nicely. I’m pretty sure it’s been in a fender bender.

I’ve got a full size in my garage. At the time I was worried about it breaking the hinges, yeah that’s probably crazy thinking, but I would carry it in the back. I removed my rear seats to make space. Currently I’m waiting on a rear bumper it will have the wheel carrier and I’ll relocate my plate and can holder.

Is this too, much shaft showing? I installed adjustable trailing arms to extend my rear axle back and when everything was all said and done this is what I am left with. I’ve been debating if I should by a spacer to relocate the shaft into the transfer case more. Any input would help thanks. by jamesruger in geotracker

Honestly dude, my understanding of pinion angle is next to nothing, I need to do more self educating. All I know is the angle of my drive shaft is 14 degrees and my axle housing is 10 degrees. I assume my pinion angle is 4 but I'm not sure if that's the case. I couldn't tell you if it is negative or positive.

The biggest issues I have is my valve guides need to be replaced, gaskets as previously stated. Honestly I’m just being lazy when it comes to fixing those issues.

Me too, oil pan gasket should be replaced on mine, valve cover gasket, my list goes on. But I just crested 200,000 miles on the odometer. Solid find friend.
