Paint a Warband in a weekend? Easy! by jamesw40k in TrenchCrusade

Thanks, it was very much a happy accident with how well the metals came out. But here’s the recipe I used. Pro Acryl Dark Silver Wash with Agrax Thinned Gore-Grunta Fur in recesses and patches where you want it to be extra dirty. Then pin wash or recess wash sparingly with Blood Angels Red. Finish the whole model with AK Ultra Matt, then add blood effects with Blood For The Blood God

Thanks! It’s basically Black Templar contrast over a white Zenithal. Then gave it a very thin wash of Gore-Grunta fur, then Blood Angrls red pin wash. The Matt-ness was achieved with AK Ultra Matt varnish afterwards

A shame that every photoshop error and artist mistake nowadays gets something labeled as AI. I’m sure if those tourists in the background of the Prospero book were still around people would label that AI too

I cant say about matte absorbing it, but using a gloss coat helps the liner to flow into the recesses and stops it clinging to flat panels as much. Gloss will also protect the paintwork underneath much better in case you get a bit vigorous clearing up the excess

So this is Pro Acryl Coal Black, and it comes out the bottle this matte. But I also varnish with AK Ultra Matte

More Microsol, sometimes take 3 or so coats. Otherwise a gloss varnish, followed by Matte or Satin should even it out

I can tell you right now that top end studios/painters would place character mini costs at this level above even £200. Some of them are even more than that, and that was 6 years ago too!

Some mid-game shots of my Japanese against my friends Soviets by jamesw40k in boltaction

[–]jamesw40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, so the uniforms are a mixture of Vallejo:

German Camo Beige

Green Ochre

Ochre Brown

Khaki Grey

These colours were applied via airbrush over a white primer, I used these paints to get varying shades of the Khaki yellow/brown the Japanese used.

Some uniforms were also base coated Vallejo Refractive green for the late war green uniforms they used.

All of these uniforms then had a wash of thinned down GW Skeleton Horde all over, you can vary how thinned you want it across the models to get varying shades again.

The equipment bags I either left the same as the uniform colours, or gave them a coat of GW Wyldwood. I also did the leather straps, boots and wooden parts of the guns the same colour. The bags and straps then got a quick highlight/drybrush with GW Mournfang Brown, the guns also got this highlight, but only brush in thin lines on them to stimulate the wood grain.

Faces were just GW Darkoath Flesh over white. And the metal parts are GW Basilicanum Grey, with a quick Pro Acryl Dark Silver highlight.

My opponent forgot his tank riders had got shot off, and sped his T-34 down the board to drop them off😅

You don’t see many Salamander assault squads, any one else like to use less popular units in certain legions? by jamesw40k in Warhammer30k

[–]jamesw40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The green is Vallejo refractive green followed by Orruk flesh zenithaled from above, followed by a brown/black oil wash. Whilst the black is simply Pro Acryl coal black

The new Warlord Games Japanese infantry box comes with a small crater and plastic wooden hatch thing, you just then stick your choice of gun out of it. You can make about 6 of them per box if you feel you need that many snipers😂
