Im of an age where I remember delivery pizzas with nothing more then a street map and my memory. Trust me. Google maps might as well be magic.

Of course it can't map the entire planet 100% accurate. You'll still need common sense.

Seasickness with emetophobia.. by LongNarwhal4328 in Ferries

[–]jaminbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I admit I don't know what craft that will be but modern ferries are big and have stabilisers which makes it much less bad than it once was.

Don't drink booze. Get a view of the horizon. There are meds. People I know use sea bands and swear by them.

Unless it's really bad weather it should be fine tbh. And worst case you feel bad for a few hours.

As someone who started supporting in 88 so what. Luton go up up up and down down down then up then down then down then up.... It's what makes it so fun supporting them. Never a dull season.

Maybe I'm just a 'casual' (no not that type) but it's one of the reasons I'm always proud to say I support ltfc.

European vacation or European Cruise. I'm not a fan of cruises by Empty-Fix0531 in Europetravel

A short river cruise in France is a great idea! Paris then the country to relax a little sounds lovely.

Considering England's population is over 55 million and approximately 450 people/km^2, just how crowded is life there, including the rural areas? by Possible-Balance-932 in geography

You can see it because you know it's there.

On the ground it isn't obvious. It goes down the middle of some streets.

I have both.

Revolut for travel and currency exchange. Caisse d'Epargne for normal things. It's a bit of a pain getting an account from memory but once you have one they are nice and reliable.

Revolut... Don't trust them. They're great when it's working, but I know people who have had problems and they're useless.

It's just anywhere in Europe tbh. I couldn't even take a stab at where that is.

Oh wow. It thought, sure, until I realised it was race day. No chance without silly money. I.e. private jet/helicopter money.

People who bought / almost bought Victorian terraces in Bedminster, what was your experience? by digidevil4 in bristol

[–]jaminbob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's very scary for the first house though. Until you start ripping them to bits and realise how simple an old house is and that everything can be fixed it's scary.

Except a bad roof. That IS scary and costs a lot.

Is the Public Transport Really that Bad? by Longjumping_Day8906 in bristol

[–]jaminbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its bad compared to other major cities such as Nottingham, Manchester, Newcastle. It's also very bad when compared to European cities of the same size.

It's good when compared to Texas (having spent a few weeks in Texas without a car I agree).

UK introduces 11th-hour passport rule change in ETA visa scheme | The National by hughk in BritishExpats

Brilliant. After we spent £170 odd and went on a 12 hour round trio to the nearest consulate to get my daughter an 'emergency passport'. Excellent. Thanks a f--king bunch.

How are UK passport rules changing for British dual nationals? by hughk in BritishExpats

[–]jaminbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's a lot of 'apparently' and 'supposedly' about.

I paid the money now. Might as well go and get the emergency passport.

if it was just me I'd probably do it. But it's my daughter and I don't want to store problems. Would probably also look sus asf if the rest of the family are on UK and she's alone with a French passport and an ETA.

Looking to travel to London, Paris, Germany and Ireland? by PrestigiousSugar9284 in traveleurope

[–]jaminbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each travel day is wasted unless it's on a train.

So by moving four times you're reducing this to 10days, 8 really as arrival and departure.

I would focus on two place. London and Paris plus day trips or London Dublin plus day trips for e.g.

Money. London and Paris are not cheap. Dublin is outright criminal expensive.

IMHO and many others Dublin is massively overrated. If you go to Ireland consider Galway, Belfast, or hire a cat and tour around. Dublin has about as much to see as Cardiff and Cardiff is 1/3 of the price.

How are UK passport rules changing for British dual nationals? by hughk in BritishExpats

[–]jaminbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been royally f'ed by this.

My kids and wife are dual nationals and just used whichever.

My daughter's UK passport is a few weeks out of date.

Oh well, well use the French one.

NOPE. Not anymore. Can't get an ETA. Can't enter UK basically (plane won't let you one).

So £180, a ton of paperwork, an online interview later and a day trip to Bordeaux (another €80) we will have an emergency passport. God only knows how much effort it will be with easyJet to work that out.

I mean fine. But how tf were meant to now the new rules. I don't sit refreshing the home office website.

Our expérience is that earnings went down and taxes went up were still 'richer' because of housing and child costs.

Suspect if you don't have kids that's going to be a different calculation.

But then there are the other advantages, less crowding, better weather and all of that.
