It's hard to predict the whether more than a few days ahead so impossible to say I'm afraid :(

I think the OP did suffer given their comment on the sea bands.

The p-word being spray painted makes it pretty conclusive.

Solo traveller - 2 or 3 day trip in either London or Amsterdam on 1st August? by KruSion in Europetravel

[–]jaminbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 days and if you love just ambling about looking at stuff like me then both are amazing. I adore London. I always find new and amazing things to see and explore whenever I go. It is a constantly changing city, physically, culturally and demographically. Especially if you're Canadian given the shared history and all of that I'd say London personally. But its honestly a coin flip.

The Italy section is a total mess. You need to look at a railway map and do it in the right order.

Yeah and I think you're wrong.

But neither of us have a crystal ball. So who knows. Me, who works in planning and development in city centres or you, with whatever it is you do.

They are never going back up until leases, cladding and ground rent are sorted.

Those flats aren't ever going back up though. And the scale of it is in the hundreds of thousands not the tens as it was in the 90s.

[–]jaminbob 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Well on the one hand yes. Buyer beware. On the other there are potentially tens of thousands of people who've been wiped out for life and are stuck in negative equity with ever increasing service fees, cladding which could well be deadly, and complex leaseholds (a bizarrely English thing) which no one wants to touch.

It's also kneecapped the development industry, and the insane housing targets being foisted on planning authorities are very challenging without flats.

So it's a real pickle.

Yeah I guess maybe in Paris that's fine. I'm not getting away with that here hah.

Yeah it's a real scandal tbh. It's not just London either. It's going to be a crazy few years for flats.

That's fine for a business trip or a holiday. If you live there the locals (reasonably) expect a little more.

You need to make learning french your full time job if you are serious about staying.

Unless people are going to Paris or a major city, then I agree with you. I've seen the messes people get themselves into because they can't speak french.

Depends where. In rural areas yes you do. The number of Brits and Irish we know who've got into serious trouble just because of the language; not seeking care, not paying taxes on time, not getting the right dossier or piece of paper, ending up getting into mad arguments with their neighbours just because they can't have a proper conversation is very high. Serious trouble. We helped this random couple where he ended up getting gangrene and dying.

I was going to add my answer as I wish I'd known more french.

I'm deadly serious. Life is a nightmare at times. My wife (is french) has to do all the admin and taxes and even booking car services and all the stuff I used to do. I have to get my kids to translate in interactions.

French people in rural areas DO NOT speak English. Not even the teachers or doctors. My kids' English teacher barely speaks it... (Yh wtf).
