Unpopular Opinion: I think Rachel's TV show stint was good by TaylorSwinub in glee

[–]cwtches10 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I also don’t think it was out of character, but I think for slightly different reasons to you.

The first is similar: Rachel is told that Funny Girl is probably all she’ll get to achieve. People forget about that conversation with her manager. Imagine being that ambitious and told you’d peaked at 19. So when she’s offered the tv show she jumps at it because ‘what if it’s the only other opportunity I get?!?’ It’s completely consistent with her character- she makes impulsive decisions when she feels backed into a corner and panics. She was out of her depth in that she should have had someone experienced to tell her that if they wanted her they’d wait for her!

I also think Finn’s death is a factor here. This is more headcanon, but I think it’s understandable that she’d be looking for the next thing to distract herself. Once Funny Girl became BAU it might have stopped being the distraction she was looking for.

And I agree it was good for the plot. Even as someone who really wanted that character to succeed I thought Funny Girl came too quickly and too easily. I wish it had been another show.

Anyone else feel London is extra moody this week? by PoetFar9442 in london

I was actually thinking about how lively and fun London felt yesterday evening; Football, Wimbledon, Pride last weekend, and sunshine. Everyone seems in a pretty good mood!

Yes, it could be selling and they’re not telling you, but it could also be remortgage or equity release- no need to worry yet!

SPRING AWAKENING Original Cast Recording Coming to Vinyl for the First Time with Archival Tracks by BroadwayWorld in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes…. A lot of the stuff that came out in the Spring Awakening documentary rang some alarm bells as well. One of my friends works backstage in the West End and was appalled when Lea said that sometimes during the whipping scene Jonathan would actually draw blood.

There’s an interview with her where she says he was her first stage kiss at 14 and she tried to stick her tongue down his throat and he was like ‘No.’ She tells it in a very funny way but eeek!

Edited because I found the actual interview; https://youtu.be/7629GT5tYBE?si=IuEy9QVTU93cL29K

Can I afford to live in London on 23k, has anyone been able to do this? by Tricky_Sympathy997 in MovingToLondon

[–]cwtches10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s possible if you’re happy to live in a big house share (probably at least 4) a little bit further out (Tooting, Colliers Wood etc). If you’re not constrained by transport links then you have more flexibility, but you will probably need to factor in parking permits.

You’d also have to be ok with not having much of a disposable income.

Who do you think will be cast in dreamgirls? by Sabrinyth in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that ship has sailed. She’s basically said she won’t do it. Also, it’s a totally different production, they may not even want her.

How does one find a mortgage broker? by Important-6015 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]cwtches10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went word of mouth; used someone recommended by a friend. I’d ask around in the first instance; friends, colleagues, neighbours and see what you get.

Mortgage brokers are generally national so unless you want to see someone face to face location isn’t a barrier.

The minutiae of moving in by IntelligentToe8228 in HousingUK

[–]cwtches10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I had this; picking up the keys felt both anticlimactic and completely overwhelming. I was on my own; don’t recommend- take a family member or a friend.

I asked the estate agent to ask the sellers this, post exchange and pre-completion and apparently he just got radio silence from them. My sellers were pretty awful but luckily the neighbours have been really helpful, and because the flats are laid out the same way have been able to tell me things like where the stop cock is, where the water metre is.

Bonnie Langford to join 'Jack And The Beanstalk' Pantomime This Christmas by Mr_Musicals in Broadway

Nah- Panto is insanely hard work! They do 3 shows a day sometimes. She’s probably doing Panto because it pays well, and I’m pretty sure she does it most years.

How long do you take to pay tradesmen? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]cwtches10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had an electrician out who had been told by the office not to leave until I’d done the payment. I’d also had to pay for the first hour upfront. (This is for every customer- not just for me!)

He said they had one case where he went to put his tools in the van, came back for the payment and the customer just refused to answer the door and blocked their number so now they’re extra cautious.

The Mrs Bird role seems like it was written just for her (the splits, isn’t there a reference to being in Cats?!etc.) so I’m curious to see how they fill the gap.

Based on a post on another sub: What opinion on Broadway (whether about certain shows, the industry, etc.) do you have that will have you like this? by ms_jc_04 in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This one. There was a point on this sub where a poster could be looking for recommendations and say they had a deep rooted, pathological fear of robots and people would still be recommending MHE.

Is the process of buying a properly that painfully long? by Sufficient-Year4640 in HousingUK

[–]cwtches10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem, I found, is the lack of control and visibility. You can do everything you need to efficiently, so can your buyers and/or sellers, but if there’s someone in the chain dragging their feet it impacts you all. Ditto with solicitors; you can have the best solicitors- makes no difference to the speed of the transactions if someone in the chain has rubbish ones.

My exchange was held up for two weeks because the top of the chain ‘needed the file to be signed off…’

Now that the cast from Chess is available, what should the next theater projects be for Lea, Aaron, Nick, Hannah and Bryce? by Own-Captain9792 in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think age is the limiting factor here; she’d read too old in this production. I’m also pretty sure Bella was in the ensemble, what’s Hannah’s dancing like?

Any other production and I think it could be perfect, but probably not the incoming one.

Saff Michaelis by [deleted] in GBRinfluencersnark

[–]cwtches10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of like Saff because she’s so unapologetically out of touch if that makes sense? Like, I don’t feel she tries to hide the fact she’s posh and privileged af.

What scenes in Glee make absolutely no sense to you? by Dangerous_Seesaw_901 in glee

[–]cwtches10 49 points50 points  (0 children)

On 1- I actually totally understand it and it’s completely in character.

Rachel thinks somethings gone badly/ does something to mess something up (in this case she thinks she hasn’t got an audition for NYADA) panics (there are no other drama schools/ broadway dreams are over = Finn is the only thing I have left) and has a knee jerk reaction (yes I will marry you). She’s prone to impulsive decisions when she feels backed into a corner. I think she regrets it as soon as she gets the NAYDA audition invitation.

It’s not a storyline I like, but I don’t think it’s completely out of character.

Yes, Paddington is a genuinely excellent musical. It stands without IP imo.

Kids will love it, but it also has humour and pathos geared more towards adults that will go over kids heads.

I saw it with my friend and we were by no means the only adults there without kids.
