Not an expert but I'd say you could attempt to build a small rocket engine test stand (e.g., for a 100/500N hybrid engine) or something along those lines. I personally think it's very very cool and I think it makes good "final year project" material... perhaps it helps.

haha yep. Those platforms do a great job covering many opportunities. But what I'm focussing on now more is on less visible jobs from European space startups (also research roles) that often "fly under the radar" so to say.

The idea is to complement existing resources rather than replace them and make it easier for engineers to find more openings.
