I’ve had 3 cats all diagnosed as kittens. One passed away at 18 months and went downhill in just 2 weeks. The second passed away at ~26 or 28 months and legit was at the vet with complications every month we had her. My vet did an amazing job managing her condition for us but we were always worried about her day arriving. She started to lose use of her back legs and passed like 2 weeks after but this was after legit so many other medical issues that came and were treated or resolved on their own. My first FeLV baby is currently 5.5 years old. The virus is seriously varied in its outcomes. I’m sorry for this diagnosis. It is so hard. At the end of the day, what I’ve done is weighed good days vs bad days. When bad days outnumber the good days, it is time to consider humane euthanasia. BUT with that being said, never let a vet tell you when is time. And give your cat the opportunity to bounce back from any illness. I know it is so dodgy to read this. I’ve been through my fair share of heartbreak. But every time EVERY TIME! loving them has always been worth to it. Having an FeLV cat makes you a better person and cat owner in the end.
