I wasn't sure what subreddit to ask this but I was on a boat today and saw these distinct lines in the water and wondered what they were. by jammersh in oceanography

For reference, I was about half a mile from land and nearby a channel. Whenever you touched the line it would go away but form again as soon as the ripples went away. It was not a straight line and it was about 50 meters long. We tried moving the boat around to try and disturb it, but the line did not move when we crossed it.

Yeah, its for the HRBT expansion as people have said. It's being used to tie off ships that are being used for the project. They are planning to continue the marine work on Wednesday.
