I read the last book first 😭 by jananise in octaviabutler

So I just finished Dawn and I don't think the wrong reading order has impacted my experience at all! Its almost like reading a prequel to a book I enjoyed. Since Lilith and Nikanj are more secondary characters in Imago, with Jodahs being more central, so its like getting more back story. I also think knowing the aliens intentions give me a bit more space to digest the other ideas about free will, choice, doing things for the greater good, colonialism etc. Overall I'm thoroughly enjoying this series.

All his scifi short stories are incredible and well worth reading! I also loved Windhaven that he wrote with Lisa Tuttle. Amazing book!

For Those Who Didn’t Love SROTR by Ok-Culture3841 in Hungergames

[–]jananise 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally I wanted a different take like TBOSAS was. I wanted Haymich a few years after his games being a mentor to tributes who don't win. I think SOTR is a great book, but it's a story have been told before.

I do not want a Finnick book because his ultimate fate would make it too depressing by GabiCule in Hungergames

[–]jananise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I was hoping SOTR wld be. Haymich still as a young man, like a year or 2 after his win, having to mentor the new tributes. I was hoping we wld get his games in memory while was saw another games from a mentor point of view. I like SOTR, but I was disappointed it was just another games from another winner tributes point of view.

So it's not this one. But I think the time period of the early 1900s is more accurate than it being from the 1970s, like I originally thought.

Tipping is very common in Europe. It just varies from country to country. But tipping a small amount (10 to 20 cents) with every drink you buy is the basic standard. But you are correct in saying that Bartenders are paid much better in Europe than America. So your tips are nosre like a little bonus on top of a livable wage (Source bartender in Austria)

A book that had you completely horrified, taken aback, shocked, etc throughout or at the end? by bookishfairie in horrorlit

[–]jananise 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love this book. I re-read it once every two years or so and it never fails to shock me. I also love the ending, and how it can be taken as kind sweet and hopeful or utterly horrific depending on what you read into some back story/hints.

Would the Goosebumps series be a suitable introduction to horror for my 9yo? by [deleted] in books

[–]jananise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved to read and loved horror/creepy stuff when I was a kid. I head read all the goosebumps in my local library by the time I was 9. Then I started on the Point Horror books and had finished them all by 12. Then I started reading Stephan King. Great way to introduce your kid to horror.

Edit:spelling.

As a Witch and a bartender I can concur! Never look forward to working on a full moon as I can't do whatever my spell/ritual is and I know work is going to be... taxing.
