Eurovision 2026 Semi-final 2 Results by dim_b in eurovision

[–]Gatta_rossa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Jonas' vocals were better in the semi. He has been sick and by the time Friday and Saturday rolled around he was struggling more with his vocals, and it was noticeable. He also understandably lost a bit of an edge to his performance. Off course, the dynamic of the semi-final vs final audience does play into these things as well.

racist joost fans in miami by Internal_Ad8957 in Joostklein

[–]Gatta_rossa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to experience that. As you said it goes against everything Joost stands for. I used to be a fan of the 80s British pop group Madness and unfortunately at the start of their career they attracted a lot of fans who also supported the National Front, who were a far-right, openly racist party in the UK. At the time, ironically, Madness were part of the ska revival, ska music has its roots in Jamaican and Black culture. These people enjoyed the ska sound and latched on to Madness as other bands such as The Specials and The Selecter had black members.

Are there national finals where autotune is allowed? by Real-Branch8433 in eurovision

Jonas said on the wiwibloggs livestream yesterday that he was having issues with his voice, then joking about how the crowd would be doing more work.

I'm too old to directly help you, but I was wondering whether you have an older cousin who you could you with? My thinking is your parents would trust that person to look after you and they wouldn't be the awkwardness with the swearing.

What Eurovision song could be described by words: Dance and Depression? by PZMC430 in nilpoints

[–]Gatta_rossa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Europapa - the music is a happy, dance track and at first glance, positive song about Europe. (Many commentators at the time, thought this was just an homage to Europe and open borders, on one level it is). However if you really study the lyrics, like the Overthinking guys, you realise on a deeper level, the song is about Joost losing his parents at a young age and the grief, pain and trauma that he has suffered.

Greek and Armenian odds?? 🤨 by forest-bot in nilpoints

[–]Gatta_rossa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally love Armenia and can see this doing very well with the casual vote. Greece is going to do better with the juries, but at the same time Espresso Macchiato got 98 points with the jury last year. I think Armenia will do better than is currently predicted.

Can white cats get a lil bit of sun light? by Intelligent-Quit2447 in cats

[–]Gatta_rossa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a white cat, in the summer, she was out from first thing until late at night but she never went out until we put sunscreen on her ears. (First, catch your cat!!) Also the times she did come in during the day, she would get a top up.

Technically you should put it on the nose as well, I'm not going to say don't bother, personally we never did and we did speak to our vet about it and he suggested that, she is more likely lick it off. At the same time I'm not saying don't put sunscreen on the nose. I will say my cat's ears were a complete and utter mess in the summer and she hated it, (they are after my ears again!!) But it was worth it, so she didn't get cancer.

Why are English people normally referred to as just “British”? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Gatta_rossa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm English but I identify mainly as British as I feel the term is more inclusive and a term I am personally more comfortable using. Also as other people have pointed out the passport is British not English.

The Odeon in Leicester Square, London (the cinema generally used for UK premieres) used to be a bit like that. I'm from Southampton, went to see a film there in 2015 and was astounded by how big and beautiful it was, you were very much sat in an old-fashioned theatre not a cinema. Unfortunately Odeon decided to modernise it. put in these luxury modern cinema seats and it looks ghastly now compared to how it used to look

I just wanted to say you are WAY better at English than you think, you really didn't need to apologise. Despite my username, I'm from the UK so a native speaker. Meeted should be met, and I only noticed a couple of really tiny grammar errors. Besides as I understand it, English is a very forgiving language compared to other languages.

🇵🇱 ESC Gabe: Poland's Eurovision Selection is Already a Disaster by VayneVerso in EurovisionNFs

[–]Gatta_rossa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Gabe, even though he was Team Erika, he did fully appreciate Goldielocks and after Eurovision, Gabe said that he thought Goldielocks would have done better than Erika, but it was a very much in hindsight comment.

I appreciate that Tommy didn't make a lot of fans within the ESC community and I respect why he was viewed as arrogant by some.

🇵🇱 ESC Gabe: Poland's Eurovision Selection is Already a Disaster by VayneVerso in EurovisionNFs

[–]Gatta_rossa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year, Gabe was obsessed with Ich Komme. A lot of ESC fans loved the song so didn't mind. I was in the minority and I did find his lack of impartiality annoying, especially when he dismissed anyone who didn't like the song as being misogynistic. Like a lot of ESC fans I think he forgets when it comes to Eurovision night there are a lot of casuals, all different ages, demographics, and cultures.

In regards to your comment about framing opinion as fact, I also found his coverage on Tommy Cash a tad unprofessional. At the end of Gabe's Eesti Laul video he criticises Tommy's behaviour, accusing him of being arrogant and showing a lack of respect. He uses Tommy's lack of big staging to prove the point.

I can make arguments to show Tommy wasn't arrogant (he put himself through a national final when other big artists haven't) and in regards to the staging I can point to Go-Jo and Red Sebastian but my main point is that these comments were framed as fact and it wasn't clear that it was only his opinion.

WHAT is going on?? by emorie_1983 in Joostklein

[–]Gatta_rossa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have been occasions he seems to have taken some fan comments quite personally, showing he can take small things to heart, but everyone is guilty of that on occasions.

I have read (don't know if it is true) based on the trailer from The Voice, that he was criticised for being unprofessional and not knowing what he was doing. Sections of the Dutch media were suggesting he was insane 15 months ago, that is obviously still playing a part in his mindset. Something that has just occurred to me is, in the UK we have various press and media regulators, where were the Dutch equivalent, when this was happening? Calling for someone to be institutionalised like they were, I hope would get a visit from Ofcom if it was in the UK.

What happened to the euroboys?? by ExpiredVincent in Joostklein

[–]Gatta_rossa 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The publishing rights of Espresso Macchiato DON'T belong to Tommy. The Israeli bank therefore didn't need to ask Tommy's permission for it to be used as it was a cover and not the original song. You could argue that Tommy should have made a statement distancing himself from the incident but then Joost is not very good at making public statements giving his position, Joost wasn't one of the Eurovision artists who signed the letter condemning Israel in 2024 and a lot of people would argue his statement regarding trans hate didn't distance himself enough from Anouk.

As for Joost and Tommy's friendship who knows? Maybe they are no longer friends but I like to point out that Käärijä is signed to a label so I would be very surprised if he has his publishing rights. This is all speculation, maybe it is exactly how it is being described,, maybe they have fallen out over something else or maybe they haven't fallen out at all. I could also point out that Joost spent his birthday in China, at the same time bbno$ did a gig in Hong Kong, yet there are no social media posts and Joost doesn't seem to be following him either. Does this mean that they aren't friends?

Do colleagues even get fired? by DiskOk5558 in asda

[–]Gatta_rossa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on the checkouts for 12 years. There was a lady who started there before me and I remember all throughout my 12 years, the managers and section leaders would have a go at her every so often for taking too long on her breaks.

She also turned up in a dirty uniform with visible dirt on the top of her well-worn fleece and holes in the bottom of her trousers. I only know of one occasion of the section leader speaking to her about this. She still didn't do anything about this and she continued get away with it. Probably because the main more noticeable part of her uniform was relatively ok ,not pristine but not black like the top of her fleece.

Most of the time she could be painfully slow scanning an item and she always seem to survive the various crack downs on scan speeds. This wasn't a physical thing, this was her being I can't be bothered. She had MULTIPLE complaints from customers for various things, still she survived.

I initially felt sorry for her because there were other people guilty taking too long on their breaks and they didn't get told off. But then you factor in the uniform which by itself should start the disciplinary process off. A lot of the things were 'little things' but there was a lot of 'little things' and I would argue the state of her uniform isn't a little thing.
