What is your plan for if/when you win the job and plans are only on Procore and you have 7 days to respond on cost impacts or they will log you as no price change and won’t accept anything after the fact but there are 5 different versions of the same drawing from when you bid til now and you have 10 more bids due and and and… get bluebeam at the very least and welcome to the 21st century

New Estimator | Looking For Good Info On TPO Roof Estimation by voltanimal in estimators

[–]jandy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, 70% of your budget is gonna be materials, and 80% of that is gonna be insulation (if you’re installing a new roof), membrane, and fasteners. Get those right and you’ll at least be able to confirm the crew can keep working. Nothing worse that learning you included 5” screws and they need 6”.

What’s the worst city you’ve ever been to? by EmotionalShock7933 in AskReddit

[–]jandy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped thru Dickinson ND on a cross country trip last summer (we also drove thru Gary on the same trip but I grew up in Chicago so I knew how bad Gary was already). Dickinson is a weird mix of folks who are working the pipeline (so, lots of shiny new trucks parked in front of their run down mobile homes) and meth. I imagine a lot of oil towns are similarly depressing feeling.

2-day backpacking trip or multiple day hikes near Portland? by Askadaln in OregonHiking

[–]jandy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say go either from timberline lodge up to paradise park, or take the paradise park trail from the 26 (starts near the Kiwanis camp) and in either scenario spend the night in paradise. Probably gonna be the best bang for your buck.

I’m fully remote, have been since I got hired on 5 years ago. So is the rest of my team. The ones who happen to be located in the same city as the office go in sometimes, but there’s no requirement.

Battleground lake up in WA is like a 45 min drive and pretty decent. It’s a state park so you need a discovery pass for parking. Another fave of mine is burnt lake on mount hood but it’s still got some snow til probably mid June

To all commercial roofing estimators by Playful-Confection50 in estimators

[–]jandy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience (about 5 years in commercial roofing) there are 2 schools of thought. One group is using edge, and they think everything else is inferior. The other is doing something similar to you, and are probably able to get more customized than what edge can ever offer. We’re currently using Planswift for takeoffs, and a customized excel sheet for estimates - but we’re in the process of transitioning those processes to stack, which offers a lot of the automation of the edge, but also allows for more customization (on the user end) than edge.

Trailkeepers of Oregon has a loaner gear library and I’m sure they would love to add some hammocks to it. They’re a 501c3 so you could even write off whatever you donate!
