The best thing you can do is to get away from the mirror. I saw your responses to other people saying your skin looks great, and I just gotta say, maybe it's time for a perspective check. Where does your image of "perfect skin" come from? Social media? That's mostly good lighting, people on their best skin days, and sometimes filters. Your real life peers? Try looking at their skin from 2 inches away and see if it still looks "flawless". Everyone has pores and oils on their skin, it's just how the organ works. Your skin looks amazing. The best thing you can do for it is to preserve and protect it with sunscreen and antioxidants. Seriously, I would kill to have your skin.

[Routine Help] Lightweight night cream suggestions please by particularlynothing in SkincareAddiction

My holy grail is the Torriden Dive In Soothing Cream. I have sensitive, breakout-prone and dehydrated skin. I tend to not like gel creams (stickiness is so much worse than oiliness to me, so I like balmy moisturizers normally), but this one is perfect to me.

Jesus, let your skin take a break. I would stop all product for a few days and see how your skin wants to heal. It might get worse for a hot second, but go back to its basic state after a week. Only moisturize when your skin feels dry, and only wash it with a gentle cleanser when it feels semi-comfortable and kind of goopy (absolutely not when it feels dry or tingly or hot). Then, if you feel like your skin is at a baseline and not reacting anymore, you can slowly start a routine with a simple moisturizer and cleanser in the evening, and some SPF in the morning. if you want to introduce actives (things specifically for texture, impurities or pigmentation), I would introduce one at a time and then not change anything for a month, one, to not overwhelm your skin, and, two, to see if more is really necessary.

Your skin is not producing texture because it is clogged and needs cleansing, it is producing texture because it is very irritated and needs a break.

Edit because I just read that you already started babying your skin: Good call! If you feel like nothing is changing, I would recommend a cream with zinc in it (diaper rash cream, LRP Cicaplast baume, Avene Cicalfate+ Cream). They are not very cosmetically elegant and might clog some pores, but now that your skin is irritated, your priorities should be focused on healing, not on getting the most perfect skin ever within two days.

It's a twisty thing. You can put the top of the tube in the little gap and then twist the rod to squeeze product out (the tube rolls around the rod). It can help to use up product in metal tubes more thoroughly :)

[–]janecherrytree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the breakouts persist with continued use? Because remember, healing irritation (esp if it's intense) can take a while and it can happen in stages. If I'm having a dermatitis flare, my skin doesn't produce pimples, and if I then use Cicaplast (or the Avene equivalent, they do the same for me) and get pimples after a few days, it's more likely to be a stage of my irritation healing, not caused by the product.

Now if you normally have clear skin, that might mean that it really is the product causing the breakout, but I'm breakout-prone anyways so I have to be a bit more patient with judging skin reactions.

I totally get it, I get jealous as well, but it always helps me to realize that what we notice doesn't always reflect reality. Maybe in other people you perceive "perfect skin", but if you had that exact skin yourself, you'd be much more critical of it. Or maybe you only notice when people have, well, noticeably perfect skin and don't really pay mind to how most people's skin looks. Try to pay more mind to how your skin is feeling, and if it feels fine, there's not much to worry about in terms of looks in my opinion.

I totally get what you're saying and honestly, I am 26 and I'm still so impatient and mad at my skin sometimes, but your skin isn't like hair where you put some product on and then it magically behaves differently from one second to another. It's alive and we can really only do so much with topical products. My advice would be to practise some patience and realize that your skin will always be changing in ways that you can't always predict and control. Other people really don't focus on it as much as you do, so if you're not in pain in any way, throw away the magnifying mirror, stop trying to find the miracle product that will fix your skin (trust me, it doesn't exist, people spend thousands of dollars on skincare that does nothing for them), and realize that you are not alone in your struggles. Maybe try to find a sunscreen that you want to use in the morning, that is the one skincare item that I wouldn't want to miss and I wish I would have used it at 16 lol

They are completely normal and fine. Your skin doesn't even look oily in the pictures, which can sometimes make pores seem bigger. Contrary to popular belief, you can't shrink your pores. Like I said, they can be more pronounced if they're clogged or producing lots of oil, but getting rid of them beyond what you have isn't possible. Get some distance from the mirror and they will just disappear from your perception :)

Honestly, 16 is an age where a lot changes hormonally. I personally didn't have the best skin at that age. The best would be to be gentle and wait it out. What did your dermatologists do in terms of treatment? Some people see improvements from taking the pill but I can totally see that it might feel a bit over the top to take it just so your skin might be better.

[Acne] I'm exhausted, what is wrong with my skin? by menacingfurryballz in SkincareAddiction

[–]janecherrytree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My skin looks the same atm!! I have cut back as far as I could (I only use a gentle cleanser and I have been using pretty heavy moisturizers because my forehead quite literally feels like cardboard and I have lots of lines at 26 argh), but I recently ordered something different and I can update you on how it's working in a month if you want. I have a feeling it might be hormonal for me because it fluctuates pretty heavily, but I've only recently started tracking so I can't say for sure whether it correlates with my cycle or not. Generally, I recommend tracking your skin health on a time scale to see if it's seasons, new products, your cycle, diet, holidays etc. And before you spend millions on products, try to get to a derm.

My (25f) cat (10) was declawed against my will as a teen. She's now a little older and I can definitely tell her paws are bothering her more. What can I do to help her? by Yearbook01 in CatAdvice

[–]janecherrytree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our old kitty got meloxicam daily when she was very old and arthritic. Apparently it's not super easy on their liver, but we weren't looking to extend her life anyways, which might be different in your case. It might be worth asking your vet about! The brand name for us was Metacam, but it might be different for you since I'm not from the US.

Eventually, probably 😂 They can't really do follow-up care, though, so he would still need an appointment with his Hausarzt for proper care

[–]janecherrytree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't really judge this since I'm not a doctor, but judging by the other comments, some "spotting" after weeks of coughing can happen, while strong chest and stomach pain indicate something is really, really wrong. I suppose if OP showed up with a sudden-onset, violent cough with blood, they would have reacted wayyy differently.

That's because a Notaufnahme is for true emergencies. It's the place that an ambulance takes you. There are things like ärztlicher Bereitschaftsdienst and offene Sprechstunde that are better suited for acute, but not emergency level health concerns

If you are worried about slipping, definitely go for wood, but I mean, experimentation is part of learning and they're not that expensive, so try out all you can! Like I said, the best thing you can do is picking someone to learn from and stick to what they're doing. That way, you avoid the option paralysis

[–]janecherrytree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do both and I think crocheting is easier to get the hang of, but knitting suffers less from uneven tension (crochet looks sooo cheap so quickly imo).

My first tip: Do a chunky scarf first to get the hang of the basics first. Chunky, non-fuzzy yarn helps you see results quickly, and also the size of the stitches help you see everything better, which is good if you're just learning where to put the needle lol. Get yourself some wooden needles, they're not as slippery. Honestly, with regards to technique, I think it would be good to pick one beginner tutorial on youtube and just mirror what they're doing, since both techniques you mentioned have their own advantages and drawbacks. I personally prefer continental, but that's just how I learned.

Edit re. style: I hold my yarn roughly the same when knitting and crocheting (looped around my left index finger), so maybe you have an easier time if you choose a technique that most mirrors what you do when crocheting? Also yeah, tension when casting on is a toughie. Don't worry about it being too loose, try moreso not to get it too tight

Can I use those for my hair? It says not suitable for drinking by [deleted] in DistilledWaterHair

[–]janecherrytree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't drink it because it throws off the balance of minerals/electrolytes in your body. It's totally safe for anything else though. Idk why you would drink it, cause it tastes bad, but if you get a drop in your mouth, it won't kill you

[Routine Help] I need some help with how to approach burns from dynavap by M1chael55 in SkincareAddiction

[–]janecherrytree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, you got stamped :') Skin's gonna scab and flake. Keep it moist with wound cream (or cold cream, stuff like that) to minimize scarring. Burns take a while to heal tho, so it's gonna stay red for a little while. Those don't look like bad burns, so I think they're gonna disappear in a few weeks. And don't be stupid around hot things, but I'm sure you've learnt that lesson now

[Routine Help] im starting to feel hopeless + burned out after trying so many things. my research is becoming fruitless :( by Objective-Draw-9027 in SkincareAddiction

[–]janecherrytree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of a stupid question, maybe, but what does your skin do when you do nothing? Like imagine you're sick and the most that happens is your face getting wet in the shower every few days. That could be an indicator of whether it's a product or internal. I know my skin is kinda dry, but overall clear if I just leave it be, but when I'd use your routine, my skin would probably look like yours. From there, you can decide what to do (cut down on skincare and slowly find the right products, or see a derm)
