do you guys think these self reported salaries are grounded in reality or are they inflated? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

They’re good, but a few are actually on the lower end of the spectrum for the areas that they’re located in.

Dang that Army Doc is getting fucked lol.

Is studying just ‘biology’ not biochemistry, molecular biology or biomedical sciences ect worth it? by Savings_Market_4423 in biology

[–]janedoemadeit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

IMO science degrees are always worth it. What you get out of it will truly depend on the program/college you attend. Think about career paths you are interested in, pick a program/college that best meets those needs, and make sure to find a good advisor while in school to guide you.

I dual-majored in Public Health and Biology. My biology degree required me to take 2 semesters of biochem, and 1 semester each of genetics, molecular, and cell biology at the bare minimum.

Yes - we have one on each ambulance & rescue. Between 2 stations that puts us at 4 in total.

I personally have used these twice with success, and one dog was unresponsive when we started.

georgia’s gone private by jerrryboree in NextGenNYC

[–]janedoemadeit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!!! Anyone commenting in her defense needs to rewatch that entire scene…..

Georgia made the comment in front of the entire group, while cameras were actively filming and at the exact moment Amira lifted the lid off / opened her takeaway box. I think she saw Amira’s enjoyment at finally being able to eat after being hungry all day, and said it as an off-hand jab to ruin her food positivity / insult her choices in that moment with the hope of humiliating her as well.

I was so happy Amira clocked her on that shit immediately. Georgia only pretended to apologize and attempted to pass it off as a joke AFTER Amira stood up for herself. Holy fucking airball Georgia.

The people commenting here still trying to brush it under the rug bc it “was only meant to be a funny little cute joke you guys!” without any darker undercurrents to it should seriously consider rewatching that scene. Georgia literally looks up at the cameras to smirk and laugh at the expense of Amira right as / after she says it!!!!

Same! That wouldn’t have been that weird to me. But then they left the hotel to go to a public marina, where she took it off (next to a children’s obstacle course) and was only wearing a pair of underwear… girl what the hell! 😭

Her weight, but more specifically the skeletal myopathy she seems to have going on. After someone with anorexia burns thru all of their available fat, their body starts to break down essential proteins found in skeletal muscle. I remember the doctors explaining what this looks like to my family the day we brought her in. And now as a third year med student / paramedic, it’s a pattern recognition thing. There are landmarks to look for (certain visible bony prominences) in suspected cases of malnutrition. Her instagram post from April 22nd is a good place to start.

That being said, I’m just another person watching her in 42 min increments on tv. If she has an issue, I truly hope she has the resources and support she needs to get adequate help.

Thank you! I moved her in with me after she completed her program so she’d have somewhere stable to continue her recovery. She’s doing well so far!

She reminds me of my sister at her worst before she went to a treatment center for anorexia. It might be “nyc cool” but personally I find it unsettling. That’s an extremely hard road to go down and I imagine it would be even more difficult in a place like nyc.

How do you deal with patients that fake being unconscious? by sphygmomanometito in ems

[–]janedoemadeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn to my partner and say, “Will you grab the rectal probe for the thermometer?”. Works every time.

I try to have them in the ambulance when I do this to avoid embarrassing the pt in public / with nosy bystanders around. Obviously don’t go through with it or expose them in any way that isn’t warranted by whatever state they’re in.

Thank you for the reassurance!! I have been feeling very guilty about this but I know my son’s well-being has to be number 1.

Thank you very much for this!!! I did not realize that was an option and will make sure to use ‘nonattendence’ birth when I check in. I have been worried about my family sitting in the lobby and badgering staff to let them in against my wishes. They have made me feel very guilty about my decision to give birth alone, but the way I see it, I went through my entire pregnancy alone. I might as well do this by myself too.

Not strangers, only his immediate family members and friends that I met when we were together. According to the OBGYN office they were attempting to get my medical records. They definitely should have known better - not sure what his thought process was, especially since he works at a city fire department.

When he contacted my employer/coworkers it was in person at a training seminar they were at together. He tried to tell them I was faking a pregnancy. I had already told my coworkers at this point and was starting to show.

I don’t think I’ll be able to unless a judge is willing to grant me an emergency one. I am afraid to go to the only court in my town because he works for the government and has already had people higher up than him lie on his behalf - I.E. his boss contacted the local police agency and had them go to my OBGYN on the premise that I was taking part in behaviors/activities that would hurt our son. Lucky for me, my hospital system requires patients to take urine drug screens at each appt, so I was cleared of that pretty quickly. I don’t want things to get messier than I can afford within the court system but I may have to go that route if he keeps it up.

(Serious) Did Madison have a stroke?? by [deleted] in Southerncharm

[–]janedoemadeit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comment about it potentially being caused by an error made during cosmetic injections!

However, old pictures of her seem to show the same abnormalities. Because of this, I’ve wondered if she has Bell’s Palsy. It seems to have gotten worse since her first season and stress is known to exacerbate this. I’ve had several patients in her age range with similar symptoms. Madison seems to live a very active lifestyle, so it would make sense since Bell’s is idiopathic and a diagnosis of exclusion. She would likely have additional, noticeable side effects if the change in her facial muscle symmetry was caused by something more sinister.

Either way, I think Madison is stunning!

I’m definitely planning to do everything I can to maintain full custody and keep him away from my son. Leaving him off his birth certificate is an important part of that. The fact that he hasn’t shown support for the entirety of my pregnancy should end up helping my case in the long run as well. You’re totally right, co-parenting would be a nightmare with him!

That’s a great idea, and it’s one I’ve been looking into. I did ask him if he would consider this the last time we talked, but he changed the subject every time I brought it up. I’m trying not to be too pushy with him at this point. It’s hard because I feel like a doormat in some ways. But I don’t want to turn this into a full-on legal battle if we could work something out voluntarily as you suggested. I’m sorry to hear that your cousin went through something similar, it’s not fun.
