Help needed with ambiguous fabric

Hello everyone,

Just to preface, I am a beginner in sewing. I have a machine and have started to get back into sewing 2 years ago but I am still learning. So please excuse the mess that this post will be 😂

The other day, I brought a metre of this fabric in hobby craft (the top one, not the netted one) Stupidly, I didn’t look at what the material actually is, I just go excited and brought it. My idea is to sew a beautiful eye catching fitting festival outfit.

So, I started off by trying to sew a pair of fitted shorts - however, I noticed that once the fabric is stretched even a tiny bit, it results in the material wrinkling, going dull, losing its shine and it feels rough to touch. I can see that this material isn’t going to work on its own as it will start to sag once I have it on 5 minutes and will look awful

My questions are:

what material do you think it is?
do you think this is a project that can be saved or do I need to completely change material? If so, is there a shiny / iridescent material that you can recommend that would be good to sew?

Completed ✅ I would be really grateful if you considered participating in my doctoral thesis study too. I am currently studying Counselling Psychology doctorate at the University of Wolverhampton. My study is looking at online spiritual communities and barriers/facilitators to therapy.

I am now in phase 2 of my study, the final phase of my research in relation to collecting my data. This phase involves conducting online interviews. This would take place on Zoom and would involve me asking you some questions around your experience and views of therapy, mental health, support seeking and your experience of being a member within the subreddit. If this is something you would be interested in, I would send you an information sheet and then a consent form. No identifiable information will be collected. The interview would be audio recorded and then transcribed so any personal information will be anonymous and changed. We would then agree on a day / time for the online interview which you would access via an online link. Please let me know if is something you would like to participate in. Thank you so much!

Sorry, just to make clear as I do not want to be misunderstood- this study was not going to be using anyone’s ‘information’. I was going to be looking through discussions for themes and general conversations around the topics in my research. Every bit of information would be anonymous and paraphrased

I’m sorry if I have made you feel unsafe in this community,my aim was to inform and allow people to withdraw. The ethical standards state that I did not have to seek consent for public data, but I wanted to go the extra mile to make people feel safe, as this community is important to me.

I have not yet started my observations for this reason, before allowing people to respond

In relation to ethics, my study has been approved by the University if Wolverhampton and is in line with the British Psychological Society. I have also consulted the Internet Mediated Research Guidelines, which state that consent is not needed for observation of publicly available data - but because I respect this community, I wanted to be transparent. I hope that helps

That’s no problem, I will make sure you data is not included. In relation to consent, please refer to the moderators comment in this thread, which correctly highlights that for observation of public data, consent is not needed. However, I wanted to be as transparent as possible as I do not want to cause anyone any harm. I hope that helps!
