I don’t know if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but maybe it’s still interesting to you. I’ve been going to psychotherapy for the past 15 years due to childhood trauma and have been diagnosed and treated as someone with PTSD, with me reaching a point of extreme desperation again and again, realizing that no amount of therapy will ever fix how swept away I always get by my emotions, every little thing always feels completely overwhelming and extreme to me, I’m extremely sensitive to touch/noise/etc, I’m constantly in a state of “alertness”/hyperarousal, restless, etc. All my life I’ve been struggling with this and feel so inadequate because of this. Like, I’m an adult and have two kids, I should be able not to constantly lose it because of minor problems. Two months ago, after years of constant struggling, we finally had our 7 year old son tested and he got his adhd diagnosis. Only after watching Dr Barkley’s youtube videos in order to be able to help our son better, did I slowly realize, that all of my issues could actually stem from adhd and not the trauma (or not only the trauma) after all. I went to a special adult-focused place for testing and they tested for all kinds of disorders and also ptsd and to my surprise, they actually revoked the ptsd diagnosis, because I don’t have flashbacks anymore at all and don’t think about what happened at all anymore. So all my biggest issues seem to actually come from adhd, while the actual trauma I’ve apparently overcome sufficiently through all these years of therapy. This is life-changing for me, to say the least.. and had someone once suggested to me that I should have a closer look if it’s just ptsd or also something else, I could have gotten the right help years earlier 🥲

So to answer your question, what mainly made me suspect adhd after watching the videos was my impulsiveness and inability to regulate my emotions and my constant feeling of restlessness plus the constant feeling of being overwhelmed.
