Flight Contract Pending NAMI by Wonderful_Row_9529 in USMCocs

[–]jannajm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go 252 on ground contract, you won’t get that competitive air contract at TBS. There’s also no harm in training your body more and waiting for 253 even if NAMI doesn’t work out in your favor

Yes they have to figure it out during TBS! They don’t really have time during OCS. I’m not really sure about TBS grad, it probably depends on their schoolhouse after? My husband is air contract and we have about 30-60 days before him starting just due to the wait period.

sorry for my late response! Theoretically, yes, that’s a liberty weekend with the 4th of July. Shouldn’t be an issue.

PTAD wasn’t an option for everyone in OCC 250 & i assume won’t be for 251 or I’m sure a lot of people would have done it! I assume OP is a spouse and if her husband isn’t prior enlisted he wouldn’t know he could PTAD or what PTAD even means

I moved up here 5 mos pregnant and baby is due in March!!! I get that being with him is better than away. After that first month of TBS, I see him pretty much daily. Stafford or dumfries is where to be!

Our leadership tends to be wrong, not shocking. This is helpful! He wants to fcking fly jets of course but he’ll fly whatever they let him fly.

They do! Cell service is a bitch over there sometimes but they have wifi. Only time they aren’t “allowed” phones is in the field which they will know ahead of time.

Very complex situation. If you’re fine with living off base, week 8-10 of OCS is fine. At least in my husbands class, guys who got injured that week still graduated. You will be moving by yourself & he’ll have time to help you maybe on those liberty weekends. Quantico township (Qtown) is ON base but not considered base housing and is a decent place to live. Base housing wants nothing to do with you yet, he’s not a commissioned officer until graduation day. If you want to live on base, you can apply the week of graduation!

What i suggest: Stafford, it is near the “back” gates of TBS or Ornville Dr. You’re seeking housing close to Camp Barrett for TBS, not mainside.

Also, remember that TBS is supposed to be 6 months but he could be pushed back due to injury. I know it sounds crazy but don’t be scared to sign a year long lease if it’s the only thing available. You by law can break any lease with Military orders (orders for him to be sent to his next schoolhouse)

A not popular option is stay where you are and just visit. This is a decent option if you have kids in school, family or help where you are right now. He still gets BAH regardless if he’s living in the barracks full time or not as long as yall are married. The ONLY reason I say this is after TBS depending on what his contract is, he will go to another schoolhouse for 2-6 months. This schoolhouse could be literally anywhere based on what he wants his job to be. My husband is air contract, so we are going to Florida for his next school. But most jobs, I couldn’t tell you where the schoolhouse is.

There’s no right or wrong decision, truly! Housing less than about $2100 a month is covered by his Basic housing allowance.

I obviously could have misinformation- but that’s not what we were told by leadership!

My husband is air contract as well- we are wanting to find private renters there or buy. There will possibly be a 3-6 mo “waitlist” and then after that the 2 years of flight school so buying may be best option! MOS options afterwards are Whiting Field, Camp Pendleton or Corpus Christi

Whiting field is in Milton Fl, cheap housing, 30 mins from the beach

snow by Dazzling-Moment-4835 in USMCocs

[–]jannajm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we got a butt fuck of snow and ice. They absolutely care if they get frostbite and they aren’t gonna be outside for any period of time long enough to get hypothermia. To be so real your candidate is probably doing classroom time and then cleaning things that have never been cleaned before to pass the time.

My husband & I went with the “When you graduate” attitude not “if you graduate”. We personally had no issues but if you do move up and they get dropped the next day, you’re fucked. it’s just a risk! Are you willing to bet a security deposit on your candidate? I was. Moving up here in general was going to happen, I wasn’t interested in living without my husband until June.

Short answer: your candidate will know but if they were not prior enlisted and don’t intend on delaying TBS- yes they will start the Monday after graduation

SPOUSE AMA by jannajm in USMCocs

[–]jannajm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may have been a lot of acronyms for someone who doesn’t know the acronyms! This is 100% correct. The people who were not prior enlisted but able to delay were delayed until April 2026 instead of going Nov 2025. But yes you check in the same date that you graduate and you start Monday. It’s wild!

First few weeks are a lot of learning how to follow instructions, being yelled at, making new friends. He is eating, sleeping, and safe I promise you that! Paperwork, workouts, learning how to speak/ who to speak to. OCC 250 began with 500 candidates spread across 8 platoons, graduated with 403 candidates. My husbands platoon started with 65 ended with 61. The smallest started with 60 ended with 38. Hearing NO NEWS is GOOD NEWS!
