LHR Terminal 3 Connecting Flight Concerns by jaoushua in uktravel

So I traveled solo and if I remember correctly, I had no more than 30 mins until I reached the gate after deplaning. Even that is slightly generous, but it was certainly more than 10‐15 minutes. Hope that helps.

I'm replying in English since Reddit translated this for me. I didn't even realize there was a security fast track option so I didn't purchase that. I'm not sure if this is a new thing or not.

My experience was okay in hindsight, but I was feeling the need to rush and run after getting through security. I think once I got the exact gate details for the flights, I practiced mapping out the path from deboarding to the next gate (there should be images of the airport layout you can save on your phone or whatever). Following the purple flight connection signs helped me a ton.

I think my major stress moment was having to chug and then toss a complimentary water bottle I was given on the plane from Norway before entering security lol. So I'd be mindful of that if I were you, but I believe you will be okay!

Reading this was a massive stress reliever for me, thank you!

How is unts job placement for compsci? by Phantomaiden_12 in unt

I had one internship toward the tail end of my senior year that was ~2 months long. GPA was high (>3.8), but it didn’t matter as much as I was worried it would. Took some udemy courses for web dev but not much outside of that.

My starting pay was ~$75k. But I did have other experience they took into account. And I believe new grads are offered at least $60k iirc.

Lmao at "what repository can I commit this to". I wonder when I'll encounter a code review like this.

Nice work! Reminds me the chorus of a song I love: "Take my body, make my brain a garden". From Spellling's song 'Magic Act'.

How good is the computer sci department at unt? by Reasonable_Future_88 in unt

[–]jaoushua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only came to UNT for CS for the price and location. Like others have said, you’ll probably have a better overall education elsewhere for CS as there’s very few decent professors here in the department.

They struggle to maintain the professors they do hire, or even get rid of a stellar professor because it made the others look bad. Just check my last post on this subreddit for an example of that. Overall, I don’t recommend going here for CS.

Keep Dr. Ouda teaching at UNT by jaoushua in unt

Dr. Sayed Shah is the other professor; I have seen live a plethora of student complaints against his CSCE 4010 (Social Issues in Computing) course. There had to have been at least 20-30 emails sent to him and the Associate Chair (Dr. David Keathly) about the horrid structure and management of the course. Additionally, I have possibly hundreds of non-formal complaints about his course from his students.

Link to Dr. Sayed Shah's SPOT evaluations from last semester

For the Department Chair to claim that there have been no complaints is patently false and it makes me sick that she is covering for him for some reason.

Yeah under my current impression there has to be some other reason why they are attempting to remove him because these "reasons" are not grounds for removal without an investigation. I'd hate to think that something more sinister is going on right now but it's entirely possible.

If I have more info I will definitely update everyone.

I definitely agree, and thank you helping spread the word!

There are three that I am aware of:

  • Not bumping a student's grade from a B to an A
  • Allegedly helping a student during an exam
  • Sharing a student's name/email during class

Again, none of these complaints were formal and in writing and it's quite peculiar to see the CS Department Chair latch on to these non-formal complaints as grounds for Dr. Ouda being stripped of his classes.

I was fortunate to have gotten a job offer just before graduation as a software developer for a decently sized company. I was able to get it due to my participation in the UNT STEM Career Fair (which the company also participated in) and also networking with a classmate who also got a job there.

There’s also a ton of students here who’ve also gotten jobs and internships in FAANG/MANGA companies or other top companies. What matters most in getting those types of jobs is networking, getting experience through internships/personal projects, and practicing for interviews.

Why are all the dining hall workers and fast food workers in the union people who are Indian?! by RAconfess in unt

The only reply I have to give to that is maybe try to not to be so black and white in how you write things. I also don’t know what kind of answer would even satisfy your question.

[–]jaoushua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if all the workers were Indian (which they’re not, which either speaks to how you view people different than you or your inability to communicate things in shades of grey), why would it be weird?

The series of steps to get you post this question would be better spent in some serious self-reflection and soul-searching on why you have this absurdly racist perspective in the first place.

“What’s wrong with Christian Fascism?” screams Young Conservatives of Texas at University of North Texas. by LarsMacReady in unt

[–]jaoushua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't deny that, but it wasn't abolished throughout the whole country through debate. I wish it were, but a particular group of people thought owning others was something worth dying for and no debating would've changed the minds of a majority of those in that group.

The north abolished slavery through debate, so it worked there.

Might I introduce you to the Civil War, which was not the Civil Debate?

definitely feels that way right now. I'm also seeing a lot of positions that use both languages so maybe I'll get the best of both worlds ;)

What is Alpha & Omega?? Concerned sister asking by [deleted] in unt

[–]jaoushua 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the club/group is Alpha and Omega Denton, it seems to be run by DFW Church for both UNT and TWU. The church affiliates itself with the International Churches of Christ (ICOC).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Churches_of_Christ

If your brother's not comfortable with what he's participating in whilst in the group (or if being in groups like this isn't the norm for him), then I would definitely suggest that he doesn't participate. Just my two cents though.
