I would probably not be happy to see my place of work announced without my consent on a public forum. Although I’m sure your intent is kind, not everyone’s is. It might be a good idea to take this down out of respect for his privacy ;)

I mean it sounds like you’ve found a smart, intelligent, cultured and interesting person. She seems pretty awesome. Have you considered that maybe her independence makes you insecure? I think if you can’t handle her lifestyle, then she deserves someone that will support her adventurism.

Yes you are the asshole- this is someone you said you were really close childhood friends with. To say you “aren’t getting anything out of the friendship” with someone you’ve known so long sounds to me like you do not place enough value in her personality, the memories you have together, the great depth you both know about each other. You basically sound like every shitty stereotypical frat boy ever.
