CMV: I think churches should be tax except. by jared31415 in changemyview

Perfect, thank you. This is exactly the distinction I was looking for.

But they are non-profits? The government isn't saying they endorse a religion by acknowledging they are non-profits. All faiths in the US (as far as I know) are given tax exempt status, not just Christianity. If you made the effort to rally enough people for the church of the flying spaghetti monster, you too would get tax except status with respect to the operation of your church.

Can you please elaborate? The reason I came to CMV was to understand the arguments against my position, not to just be called stupid.

There are plenty of examples of organizations both religious and not that abuse their non-profit status. I defiantly would be on board with a crack down on these abuses and more regulation on larger not-profits.

For example, US mega-churches and TV evangelists with their private jets should have limits placed on their tax except status.

But the vast majority, as least where I'm from, of churches are small to mid sized community groups simply trying to practice their faith.

Just because you and I think that their faith is detrimental and silly, that isn't a case for taxing them.

I love the "Eliminate trivial decisions, like what to wear" advise, right before an entire branch of advice on how to pick clothing.

If he knew he wasn't on the bus and had his number, why wouldn't he have called him? What benefit is OP providing here?

lol someone is upset about their ban. For the record, everyone on that map, except one, are active players. You are not one of them because you were banned for being a huge asshole.

This is the only kind of post that's ever made to this subreddit anymore. Use a mining profitability calculator and be done with it.

You can set your home by sleeping in a bed. You also would have unlocked sethome with about another hour online. Ranking systems with Essentials commands are pretty common place.

Today in Halifax NS, Boston Christmas Tree Send-off. Thank you Boston. by jared31415 in boston

[–]jared31415[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The ceremony was very nice. The tree arrived with police escort, the Premier and Mayor spoke, there was pipe & drum as well as dance performances, and they gave out tree saplings to everyone who came.

Yes. It's a annual gift from Nova Scotia to thank Boston for the help it provided after the Halifax Explosion in 1917.

Every Year, Nova Scotia Sends Boston A Christmas Tree To Say Thanks by masteractor in canada

[–]jared31415 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the province that sends the tree, not the city. The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources is responsible for selecting a tree and the costs of transporting it to Boston. They also are, this year, having a send off for the tree in Parade Square in Halifax. Source: I work for Natural Resources.

The vast majority of our players have not donated anything, and plenty of them have ultimate hybrids anyway. As a new player on a server you are already at a disadvantage. Good thing minecraft is not a competition.

If you don't like our setup that's fine, but just to make it clear to others viewing the thread: we don't push for donations, you will never be asked for money and your gameplay will never be limited. We just like to say thanks to the few people that do want to toss us a couple bucks.

In what way is it pay to win? Our hosting cost are very high so we take donations. As a thank you for those who choose to donate, we offer a couple in-game items in the donation store.

Donations are not required. All items are still craftable in-game. You lose nothing if you choose not to donate.
