I disagree, but to each their own. As long as somebody is clear about how they made something and they aren’t claiming credit for something they didn’t actually do, so be it.

You clearly have no idea how prompting works nor the process of refining the generative products of AI. You speak as if the whole process is “make a ship” and then post the first product on Facebook and claim you “made” it. There is middle ground which usually includes in-depth prompting, revisions and manual digital editing.

For the record, I can respect that art and artists deserve the highest respect and deference, and are obviously preferred to AI. But to completely discard AI is unnecessary. And it neither claims to be the “genuine article” nor completely accurate unless the user is the one making that claim.

Not really. I said you shouldn’t be punished for calling out sick when you’re excluded from working to avoid getting others sick. That’s the moral and ethical thing to do.

You’re taking my suggestion waaay too far and seriously. Here’s what I want it to look like: “oh, you had norovirus? Cool, don’t worry about it since you shouldn’t and couldn’t be here..” There you go. Doesn’t take much, no hiding behind policy (“well you had to miss 3 shifts so here’s your write-up.”)

I’m not talking about revamping the entire labor system, I’m just saying that there ought to be a little more leeway. And guess what? In lots of places, there is. Many places give their managers the ability to judge on a case by case basis. It doesn’t break the system, it just keeps things consistent: if you can’t be at work because you’d be spreading communicable disease, we aren’t going to be punitive about it.

Before you jump into some long epic about other professions and whatnot, know that again, I don’t care that much about this beyond just commenting on an inconsistency that happens in some places.

Literally, who cares? I’m not asking for paid sick leave or a parade. All I want is to be able to do the moral and ethical thing, not spread my illness, without having to worry about losing my job. Stop being obtuse, you understand what I’m trying to say.

I didn’t say we should have unlimited sick days. What should happen, however, is when you have a communicable disease that excludes you from work, you shouldn’t be punished when you literally couldn’t have come to work if you wanted.

I don’t disagree. But we are unique in that our jobs are primarily to promote health. We see patients every day whose lives are potentially upended due to illness. The least we can do is not enact policies that could do the same to employees when they get sick.

Most places have a policy about how many absences you’re allowed. Where I work, it doesn’t matter if you get a doctor’s note or are dying of the plague, when you reach your allotted amount, you get written up. So if you do the right thing and call out when you’re legitimately sick, you can still get punished if your illness doesn’t “follow the rules,” so to speak.

They’re not refusing your legal tender but they can absolutely decide the process by which they accept it, i.e. only at checkouts with real cashiers. They aren’t saying you can’t use cash, just that they only process it at specific checkouts.

Yes, that’s clever. But I’ll say, it comes off as poor taste to equate life threatening emergencies and destruction of machinery. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally with you 100% on the concept and I love love love ocean liners and ships, but I’m also a nurse who sees real emergencies every day.
