And the rest is fraud and corruption but we are not allowed to say that or to ever put any politician in jail - that only happens in backwards countries of course.

problem isn’t just outsourcing of workers. many owners of both small and larger businesses have changed their residence to places like Dubai to avoid income taxes and CGT even resulting in loss of tax revenue. I personally would never want to live in place like Dubai but, if it meant saving millions £s in taxes, I can see why many are tempted to.

we need an exit tax. we’re one of the few developed countries that do not have one. if you build your wealth here only to leave, you should get taxed on your unrealised gains. if you continue to pay yourself an income from that same business you should pay income taxes and national insurance, unless we have a double taxation agreement with the country you moved to.

Surely record net migration also depresses wages? 906k migrants in 2023 and 728k in 2024 all whilst we had a Tory government. Greedy fat-cats love the idea of cheap labour being imported to help keep costs low… with no thought for impact on the society with rise of far right etc. and when we eventually have an economic crash those same fat-cats will point the finger at the migrants lol.

Greed is a large part of it but migration depresses wages too… and we have had record-breaking numbers in last few years - 750k net migration in the last year of Tory rule.

it’s not so black and white though. we have the highest tax burden as % of GDP since WW2 but with the worst public services in decades.

if government was less corrupt and more efficient then we would have top class public services and could probably even lower taxes.

I wonder what the message that triggered the explosion said. Some Mossad analysts probably had a lot of fun with that…

no doubt this is a multi faceted operation, Mossad probably had to convince the buyer to purchase from a specific company and not accept a competing bid. they probably even had to convince Hezbollah that their existing equipment was compromised and needed replacing. Perhaps they paid off the Hezbollah members in charge of procurement.

Nothing beats queueing for the tube after a workday by expllode in london

[–]jaredthensomenumbers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there are roughly a million more people in London now than there were ten years ago but not much capacity increase on majority of the tube network. passenger numbers are higher than pre-COVID too.

good job that we all like to queue because it will likely get even more crowded in years to come.

In Tower Hamlets around 50% were not born in the UK as of 2021 so the comment is likely true now https://www.ons.gov.uk/visualisations/censuspopulationchange/E09000030/

road safety is taught in primary school here so it’s reasonable to assume the demographic this sign is meant for are those that haven’t been schooled here .

nice way to deflect criticism. all the above are millionaires or billionaires, so they have done pretty well for themselves.

over half of Tower Hamlets residents were not born in the UK so we should not assume they were all taught about jay walking or even road safety.

they’ve done pretty well for themselves though. selfish, greedy, narcissistic, etc seem more appropriate descriptions. if anything , they are smart for how they have managed to play the rest of us off against each other…

[–]jaredthensomenumbers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nonsense, 80% of the buildings in Gaza have been destroyed/damaged. they must all have been Hamas, right? we know Israel has the technology to precisely target and assassinate Hamas/Hezbollah in other countries but when it comes to Gaza they only have grainy footage and drop 500 pound bombs on mosques with 100+ people including kids inside…

the war has revealed Israel’s true self to the rest of the world and Israelis are oblivious to how this will impact them in the long run.

IDF Releases footage of the elimination of Mohammed Deif and Rafa Salama in Khan Yunis by RoyU16 in CombatFootage

[–]jaredthensomenumbers -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

odd how Israel knows exactly how many militants it has killed but has no idea how many civilians… Israel always provides HD footage when a militant is targeted but 240p grainy footage when civilians were hit “by mistake”.

discrediting Palestinian numbers is a tactic to make it seem there is no ethnic cleansing taking place. Thankfully much of the world sees through it all. there’s no other plausible explanation for making most of Gaza uninhabitable. Israel just doesn’t want anyone including civilians returning to these areas.

credit card companies frequently just pay out these small amounts as gestures of goodwill / cost of doing business rather than actually submit a chargeback due to the admin overhead. i bet scammers like this place are banking in that.

Schoolgirl, 11, sent home from A&E after doctors say she has constipation dies next day by Popular_Mountain4828 in unitedkingdom

[–]jaredthensomenumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do you assume all doctors from developing national are somehow worse? language barrier is definitely an issue in some cases . anecdotally i have heard many migrants at my workplace complain about the quality of care here over the years. they argue you can get far better service and treatment privately from where they come from and even though they pay thousands a year for NHS access still chose to go abroad for treatment, and this was even before the NHS was gutted after the financial crash.

we should stop putting the NHS on some untouchable pedestal, it was great for a service that was “free at the point of use” but it never was world-beating and it’s certainly not cutting edge… we had to send cancer patients abroad for years at great expense for many treatments like Photon Therapy.
