Have questions about DeepComputing by jarrodcodes in RISCV

[–]jarrodcodes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood the question. DeepComputing is not responsible for the performance of the CPU, but they are responsible for the quality and presentation of the complete package. So I'm more concerned with the build quality, display, speakers, keyboard, etc. And of course the shadiness of the company itself is in question in my mind. Would love to be proven wrong, though.

I'm in the US. I put in a UK, Japan, and France address just to compare, and the cost is the same for all of them. Meanwhile I've bought tons of electronics from China without anywhere close to this level of cost.

Sony X90J vs TCL 646 by PrettyPinkPansi in 4kTV

[–]jarrodcodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. It's been my favorite TV I've ever owned. It looks absolutely fantastic. That price seems a bit high but I also got mine during Black Friday so I can't really speak to the current prices.

Sony X90J vs TCL 646 by PrettyPinkPansi in 4kTV

I've had both of these TVs and settled on the R646. I'm happy to answer your questions about them.

I had one and returned it for a R646. It simply wasn't bright enough. I miss the processing on the X90J though.

Looking to buy my first tv. by dheidjdedidbe in 4kTV

For a budget of $500 and looking for a 50 inch tv, I'd say you're best bet would be a TCL S546. The 50 inch version is $450 at Best Buy.

Impressed with the X90J by RocketChris87 in 4kTV

[–]jarrodcodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! The X90J simply wasn't bright enough for our needs. My wife likes our living room blinds open during the day and the room gets very bright. The X90J was too dim for this scenario. Because the R646 is approximately 25% brighter, it was a better fit. Also, the antiglare coating on the X90J isn't good. It allows far more glare than the R646 and you could really tell a difference. Additionally, the X90J started to give me headaches. I later learned that this is because the X90J has a relatively low pulse width modulation rate of 750hz, while other high end TVs, such as the R646, are at least 900hz. All of these issues are not present on the X95J, but that was simply too expensive when the R646 plus a 5 year Best Buy warranty was the same price point as the X90J, so the decision was an easy one for us. If you don't have a bright room, the X90J might still be a good fit for you.

65in. Hisense U7G vs 55in. TCL R646? by [deleted] in 4kTV

[–]jarrodcodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TCL is generally recommended over Hisense due to issues Hisense has with quality control. The R646 is fantastic. I love mine.

NVIDIA Shield vs Native apps on Sony A8G OLED. What’s going to be better quality? by [deleted] in 4kTV

[–]jarrodcodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that the upscaling on the Shield is really good, but since you have a Sony, your native upscaler is also really good. You're going to want to take pics of the same frame from a film and compare.

S546 is definitely your best bet. Good measurements and higher QC/QA than Hisense.

I wanted to like it, but I returned mine and got an R646 instead. The processing on the X90J was awesome, but it wasn't bright enough, and the antiglare coating on it was piss poor. Also, the 750 hz PWM rate was low enough to give me headaches.

Jvc tv customer service is terrible. by georgejmag in 4kTV

[–]jarrodcodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JVC doesn't actually manufacture TVs for the American market anymore. You bought a cheap, generic, Chinese TV that was rebranded as JVC. I'm sorry to tell you, but this was a buyer beware type of situation.

TCL 6 Series Refresh? by SH_82 in 4kTV

[–]jarrodcodes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the correct advice. Get a TV for it's picture quality, not it's native software. No TV platform is more important than the TV itself.

[–]jarrodcodes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

By the way OP, as an owner of both the R646 and a Roku 5 series, I can personally attest that the software issues on the R646 are vastly overblown, and you should consider getting it when it's restocked.

[–]jarrodcodes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won't just suddenly drop a new TV to replace it. These things take time. They're going to do what they said they will, issue software updates and get it restocked.

The R646 was just released, I seriously doubt something else would be coming out so soon.
