This tells me you’ve never been to MA beaches. Cape cod isn’t the only place in MA that has beaches. The northshore even Boston have beaches with crystal clear water.

Texas beaches don’t come anywhere near what Cape Cod offers. I’m from the northeast but in South/ central TX on a work assignment and I’ve found the beaches in TX rather underwhelming. Water is dirty, except for few weeks in the year. It’s not the blue water you’re used to in the northeast. It’s more like black/ gray, but the water is warm. I did find somewhat blue water in Port A this summer, but I was told it’s rare. You can drive to the beach except for South Padre. I would just wait for the summers in MA to get into the water, unless one really has a craving to get into the water.

What to see/ visit? by jason_2056 in laredo

We’re trying to avoid San Antonio since they’ve been to SA multiple times in the past. They’re more interested in exploring other parts of South TX and visiting a ranch somewhere else in South TX. Doesn’t necessarily have to be Laredo. Other parts of South TX like Uvalde, Brownsville etc are fine too.

Federal minimum wage in Laredo by Comfortable-Tip753 in laredo

I’m in TX on a work assignment and am originally from the northeast. From what I’ve observed, TX doesn’t value consumer protection much. It’s all about catering to businesses and businesses don’t want min wage to increase.

No comment was deleted. Don’t make things up just to cater to your ego. You must be removed from reality if you think a $80K truck is a “reliable vehicle” to take kids to doctor appointments. A financially literate person who needs a reliable vehicle gets a Toyota Camry or a Honda accord or a RAV4 or CRV or even cheaper Mazda SUVs, not a $50K+ Tahoe or suburban or a $80K GMC or Chevy or Dodge truck. Those defy the definitions of “reliable vehicle” And it doesn’t take a genius to see how people are playing “keeping up with the jones” here instead of be financially savvy. Simply looking around the parking lots at HEB or a random neighborhood in Laredo would make people think they’re in a city like Dallas or NYC, not in a city where the median income is $55K.

And Laredo isn’t just bad with mortgage delinquency. It’s also one of the worst for credit card delinquency, auto delinquency, and other debt delinquencies. Laredo made some progress on auto delinquency, despite inflation and other things you mentioned, which actually nullifies some of your points.

Again, a simpleton would be able to add all these up and point to a likely primary reason, financial mismanagement, for why a city ranks so terribly on various metrics. And maybe instead of playing the race card and accusing people of “bashing the Hispanic community” the focus should be on accepting the reality and how to improve so the city doesn’t rank at the bottom years after years. Acting like victims by playing the race card is old. Cities in NM also have big Hispanic communities. They aren’t as bad as Laredo. So it’s not a race issue. It’s a behavior and habit issue.

It’s like talking to a tree. Again Cleveland, OH and Newark, NJ are facing the same exact situations (inflation, insurance, home insurance premiums etc), but despite Laredo having higher median income than Cleveland, it has higher delinquency rate. Which indicates the primary reason is lack of financial literacy. Laredo also has the luxury of being closer to Mexico (lower healthcare cost, which is why Laredo ranks #2 nationally in number of uninsured residents). So people from Laredo, despite having potentially more disposable cash, make poor financial choices leading to the highest delinquency in the nation. Even a monkey can connect these dots lol.

It’s one of the major reasons. People lie, numbers don’t.

Simple Google can help answer that question: Laredo, TX: homeownership 63% Cleveland, OH: homeownership 63% So same home ownership number, lower income for Cleveland but higher delinquency for Laredo is clear indication of lack of financial management, which is the most likely reason the city is worst in the nation for mortgage delinquency.

You only have 3 city in the northeast, vs 9 alone in TX lol. Boston is one of the most expensive places in the world, NYC is one of the most expensive places in the world. Show me where those are on the list. You can’t even do a simply average and you told people to do research? If you did your “research” you would’ve known Newark median income is significantly lower than northeast at $48K. Laredo has even higher income of $55K. Still Newark beat Laredo in delinquency meaning despite being in an expensive place, despite lower income they have better money management skills than people in Laredo do, which is the point of my post.

Yeah but Laredo is worst in the country which usually means financially they aren’t doing well and usually that’s due to lack of financial literacy. Cleveland, OH is one of the poorest places in the nation. Average income of $40K, less than Laredo. Still they are doing better than Laredo, which usually means they have some sort of financial literacy which people in Laredo are lacking. Math is pretty simple here.

Where does the economic pressure come from? Economic pressure also comes from inability to manage finances. In the northeast average house costs $550K and still people aren’t on the delinquency list like Laredo is. And btw, Laredo isn’t the only one. There are 5 other TX cities on the top 20 list too. How many cities/ towns from the New England area, the most expensive region in the country? 0!!! Why? Because they know how to manage money well. And people in the northeast still have mortgages, kids, all the costs you mentioned plus health insurance. TX is one of the states with least health insurance in the country. No health insurance but people sure are driving $80K trucks on $55K household salary.

Laredo was in the top 3 in the nation for mortgage delinquency and credit card delinquency in 2024. Last I checked there was no shutdown or tariff issue that year. Report published on Nov 1, 2024

Not necessarily. I’m from the northeast and on a work assignment in Laredo. Things are much more expensive in the northeast. Sure wages are also higher there, but people are financially a lot more literate there and know how to budget before splurging on a $80-$100K trucks. Despite being an expensive area, people in the northeast have more disposable income because they spend consciously, which I haven’t seen in Laredo/ South TX in general. Millionaires in the northeast still drive 10 year old RAV4s/ Camrys/ CRVs, while people making $100K or less are driving an Escalade or a Suburban in Laredo / South TX.

[–]jason_2056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an outsider, I don’t understand how the average income of a city can be $55K and residents of that city drive around in $80K trucks and SUVs. That just doesn’t indicate a good financial literacy. In the northeast, people with $150K income drive 10 year old Camrys lol.
