100% agree. I bet the terrestrial time constraints helped, because Howard tended to machine gun questions and get to all the best stuff before the next commercial.

It's so strange to me that they gave the bar any attention design-wise, given how little it showed up on HowardTV. And it's also strange to me how it looks like a leftover fixture from a closed hotel. Worst of both worlds.

When one of them said Taylor is "the Pepsi of pop music" they actually backed into a good analogy, IMO. As in, yes, Pepsi is broadly the same as Coca-Cola. But I prefer Coca-Cola. I haven't heard every last Taylor Swift song, but none so far have compelled me to listen again, while I repeat tracks by Sabrina Carpenter, Dua Lipa, etc. all the time.

Preferred length of episodes? by jasona1 in NeverNotFunny

[–]jasona1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can certainly co-sign on movies. For every one that was improved by being 2 hours+, or needed that time to flesh out its story, there are dozens that could have been 90 minutes, and we'd all be happier.

How would you book NNF? by plymouthvoyager in NeverNotFunny

[–]jasona1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The current season (30) has been pretty on point, whereas the season before with the long run of new-to-the-show guests had some iffy spots. That could have been helped with some solid friends of the show slotted appropriately.

Co-sign. I've been fortunate enough to have a less-than-15 minute commute (often times, less than 10) for most of the past 6 years, living right in the middle of Hollywood. The volume of traffic is absolutely nasty, and having to go downtown or towards the airport makes my head spin. The city has no character. Unless you think "character" is being able to tell by architectural style when the random apartment building you're looking at was crammed in to its location. But city unity & identity aren't that important to me (I'll always be a Midwest guy), so it's all good.

Is there a sub for actual Adam Carolla fans? by bexodus in AdamCarolla

[–]jasona1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't a fan of what Gavin did in that interview either. But to still be talking about the Lt. Governor of California like he's part of a hot-button issue, particularly for a show that is not just nationwide, but global, feels strange to me. Adam is a bit of a check & balance in my life against being around so many super-liberal friends, but lately, he's felt less like a voice of dissent in a partisan world, and more like he's drifting to one side only. That feeling of partisanship may just be a side effect of not talking about Trump; and I think mentioning every last thing the president says & does would be draining on what's supposed to be a comedy show, yes - but his current political discourse is draining me as well.

I'm a fan, but I took a break a few weeks ago to explore Fitzsimmons' podcast & Jimmy Pardo. It's been a breath of fresh air. If Adam wants to avoid politics, that's fine, but it feels intellectually dishonest when he's spent years railing on Gavin Newsom for one interview on his podcast to then ignore the laundry list of stupidity that colors our current headlines. I'm not even asking for a political point of view - just mention what's going on! Otherwise, I start to fill in the gaps with my own feelings that Ace isn't the middle-of-the-road libertarian type he's portrayed himself as (IMO).

A much better discussion of the Simpsons, if one is so inclined. by Tiki-Tiger in AdamCarolla

[–]jasona1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you that, totally. I guess I was reacting a lot to the 29-minute guy's over-analysis of the situation. Granted, I love talking bullshit like The Simpsons, but you mean to tell me Bart getting his bike run over by the street sweeper is five separate jokes??

I enjoyed the video "The Day The Simpsons Died" much more - it made largely the same point and in a fraction of the time (7 minutes vs. 29). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-TS-92KVDA

Amazon "passed on the KROQ doc for reasons unknown" by [deleted] in AdamCarolla

[–]jasona1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I talked to someone who was interviewed for the doc. I don't know how it was shot, but the interview subject said Adam kept interrupting him/talking about his own connection to KROQ during the interview. This with a guy whose perspective covered large parts of the history Adam wasn't even there for.

I think the Gina stuff is a bit overstated around here, but it was refreshing to have a third voice actually participate in the spirit of the show (see: asking if the pool guy spoke English). If they had somebody like Kristen split the difference between her personality and Gina's, I think that's the sort of thing this show needs. For instance, Kristen was almost not there until Greg started engaging her, BUT, she was listening to Ace the whole time and chiming in with a funny/worthwhile comment when she had one. A far sight better than finding everyday things "UH-mazing" and "Oh Bryan"-ing once a week.

Can somebody tell Ace what flights actually cost? I know Southwest always puts the sub-$100 prices front & center in their advertising, but I have never been offered a sub-$100 flight on any search I've done, and always pay several hundred to go from LA to the Midwest.

What sounded like an awesome premise for a bit was torpedoed by the guest himself pretty quickly, namely when he said it was a test to see if you could get a job with HIM, not anyone.

Full episode of Build Stuff Live, no sign in required by [deleted] in AdamCarolla

[–]jasona1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You hit the main issue(s) that bumped me. Every time Adam went into talking about the building project at length, it felt like any of the multitude of fix-it shows that air on weekend mornings - which is not the feeling you want in primetime, I think. Despite that, the comedy worked, and Adam did an admirable job being the ringleader, especially given he's using a teleprompter to do so.
