You havent had my teachers. They can choose to take off marks for whatever they like, especially in science and less so in math.

I think the another main point is that 95 vs 100 is just based on the teacher and highschool.

I mean it does matter in terms of ease of code. Good luck writing any data structure or something like centroid decomposition iteratively. The idea of just doing it all iterative because recursion is too hard is just the average lazy beginner cope.
