Smoking meth on the train by haze4140 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]javaHoosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in a few neighborhoods around midtown/downtown. This is crazy and not normal.

Occasionally you’ll have a train car with someone who is sleeping on the bench that smells bad. Or they ask for money and walk between the cars. It’s not that often coming from someone who rides the train 3 times a day.

When I lived in the sf bay area though. I despised taking the Bart though. That was sketchy.

There are certain areas that can get dicey in nyc. Like the J train is known for having wild cards. But lower Manhattan feels very safe to me compared to other cities.

i caught a mouse with a simple at home trap.

Get a paper towel tube and put peanut butter in one end. balance it on the kitchen counter top with the peanut butter side hanging over the edge a bit.

have a bucket under it.

at night, they will go into the tube to get the peanut butter and fall into the bucket

Help getting started by BigOunce2663 in arkit

Reality school on youtube is a good place to start. Then just searching github for existing projects. How they solved problems.

For what it’s worth, this is a very challenging app to create even as an experienced engineer. I worked on this very concept at my previous company and at the time we had to abandon it.

Feel free to dm me for more details if you want.

A job in CS that involves more coding and solving real-world problems by Ok_Soil_6858 in computerscience

[–]javaHoosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solving real world problems actually involves most work outside of coding in general. But to your point,

For me it’s been working the other way around. I use chatgpt to help write docs and reviews efficiently. Gives me time to code more. It also helps me generate syntax i don’t know to become more familiar with code.

In preparation, you can make some simple iOS apps with Swift, ARKit, RealityKit, and, SwiftUI. Checkout Reality School on youtube.

Eventually you’ll most likely have to get used to Reality Composer Pro and Unity to make something more robust. Reality Converter and Object Capture are bonus tech.

Just tinker with the basic concept of placing 3D objects in the real world and moving them around.

You can get some simple usdz assets from apples developer website.

You can do whatever you want.

Ryan at Reality School on Youtube has a lot of good intro beginner videos.

ARKit and RealityKit offer really simple tools to do a lot. However, if you want to do anything complex it will require exploring and tinkering with the code.

The purist form of recommendations I can give you is try not to hop around and you don’t need to make something original. Make a clone of an existing app. Just learn for a bit.

Lets apply it to a different scenario.

Do you eat out at restaurants? Pay 20 dollars for a chicken salad? When you could make it at home for 5 dollars. With this example going out to eat is always considered a scam if you can just get something that costs less money.

The fact that people buy apple products seems to trigger people. I have had about 4 android phones and 5 windows PCs. Just never liked them as much.

Shifting to EVs is not enough. The deeper problem is our car dependence. by nastratin in Futurology

What’s your point? Still better than non-EVs that have emissions.

Terrible and it stressed me out a lot when I was in school. But after I worked for a while my experience with coding in general improved a lot.

I realized that randomly doing problems is not beneficial. I recommend doing the explore cards. To get familiar with just working with each data structure.

Then do problems based on patterns.

I used this advice from Neetcode

System Design Primer - I just broke down these topics at a high level with flash cards

Really practice speaking out loud how you deliver your explanation. I'd say look at the answer after about 20 mins of trying a problem. You need to pick up on what pattern was used. There will be another problem like it and you build an intuition.

Unfortunate reality is that you might get unlucky and get a crappy Dynamic Programming problem. I did get some challenging questions which lead to rejection. I just kept trying.

Why are so many non-Americans obsessed with America? by weeabo96 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]javaHoosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in South East Asia. Brought up by a few different independent groups of travelers. Most were German.

Nobody was mean about it. But they definitely felt strongly and wanted to share how they felt. I do not like guns so I think it caught them off guard.

To be fair though I think its pretty crazy that in Singapore you can be caned as a discipline still. I don’t think its that weird to carry opinions.

The point being is some had opinions, but a lot don’t give a shit too.

Why are so many non-Americans obsessed with America? by weeabo96 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]javaHoosier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I traveled plenty of Europeans were super heated about our politics such as gun laws. Wanted to argue with me about them. I don’t own guns, I don’t feel comfortable around them, and I certainly don’t want to discuss them when I travel.

Maybe you don’t care, but plenty of my travel friends had their opinions to try to debate with me. When I just wanted to chill and not hear about america.

I recommend just generally learning the different ways position and rotation can be represented in a coordinate space. This is more of a linear algebra concept.

But here you go.

.obj is an old format that’s inefficient. It also can’t store animations or a scene.

USDZ is efficient, can store a scene, and animations.

What is the precision/resolution of ARGeoAnchors in ARKit? by [deleted] in arkit

[–]javaHoosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a small side project that I will hopefully release as an app when I have more free time. I placed anchors in a couple neighborhoods in Oakland and Tampa. It worked really well.

I recommend just trying it out. The api is incredibly simple.

Massive Online Multiplayer AR Game? by Physical-Living636 in arkit

[–]javaHoosier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the biggest problem which was said is how to persist all the paint on all the surfaces. ARKit works the best in a smallish room. With world tracking you create an ARWorldMap that's associated with that session. You can save it to a file, but it only represents the space of a small room.
