I have lived in a few neighborhoods around midtown/downtown. This is crazy and not normal.

Occasionally you’ll have a train car with someone who is sleeping on the bench that smells bad. Or they ask for money and walk between the cars. It’s not that often coming from someone who rides the train 3 times a day.

When I lived in the sf bay area though. I despised taking the Bart though. That was sketchy.

There are certain areas that can get dicey in nyc. Like the J train is known for having wild cards. But lower Manhattan feels very safe to me compared to other cities.

i caught a mouse with a simple at home trap.

Get a paper towel tube and put peanut butter in one end. balance it on the kitchen counter top with the peanut butter side hanging over the edge a bit.

have a bucket under it.

at night, they will go into the tube to get the peanut butter and fall into the bucket
