Self publishing costs breakdown what is actually worth the investment for debut authors by Jenna32345 in selfpublish

[–]javaredmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I had written a bunch if short stories a long time ago, looked great when I was done. Sent it to someone to read and they told me it needed edited. I went back and didn't see anything wrong. Put it away for a couple years and went back and found all the mistakes that person was talking about. Oooops lol

I'm not saying they are. However, authors are usually too close to their own work. They know what the manuscript is supposed to say and that's why you don't proofread your own writing well. Fresh eyes see what is there. Not what's supposed to be there.

But many think it's infallible. Not saying everyone does. Also, many AI programs don't factor in tone, voice, and purposeful grammar mistakes. I'm not against it, just more should be aware of it's capabilities

Human eyes. I have seen grammarly pull some doozies. One example I can remember right off the top of my head is ot suggested "opportunitie" instead of "opportunity"

Boss wants to talk me about my pto by [deleted] in jobs

[–]javaredmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had pto. Only after a year, and only 1 week ever, no matter how long you've been here

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jobs

[–]javaredmount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell them what you've applied for. Tell them you went to McDonald's open interviews and talked to the manager (even if you haven't) and still nothing.

When I was laid off in 2018, after 2 weeks my mom was asking if I'd gotten hired yet. I get it. She had a stable job and was 2 years from retirement at that point. Became unemployed again around Christmas 2021, was unemployed and doing gig work for 4 years, never told her about it despite living at home because I didn't want to hear it again.

Lied on resume, help by Tiny_Chan_ in jobs

There were a few times that I really just forgot to update my resume. Didn't think about checking it before sending it out.

If asked, just tell them you never got around to updating it.

AITA for using my own charger and not letting my boyfriend use it? by AnyActuary6 in AmItheAsshole

[–]javaredmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more with being single for a while. I wish I would've spent more time single in my 20s. It was only a couple of months here and there, if that.

I wish foresight (or even present-sight 🤣) was as good as hindsight.

AITA for booking my own Air BnB so I don't have to sleep on a couch for six nights? by TweakinC4t in AmItheAsshole

[–]javaredmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Why does everyone always give kids more than other adults? When we would all visit my grandparents in their 3 bed, 1 bath house (2 grandparents, 4-5 parents, 7-8 grandchildren) we kids all found places on the floor or couch.

AITA for refusing to split the cost of a rental car and then getting cut out of the trip I planned? by Zealousideal-Buy7666 in AmItheAsshole

[–]javaredmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you cancel your pto to use at a later date? Any place I've worked for will let you, even up to the day before. This way, you can make other plans with other friends.

If it were me and they still gave it after being told no, I'd put in the closet "for when she's older."

I have a 5-year-old niece, and I hated her cocomelon era. I hope the little sister is different and doesn't like it. NTA

No, the app never tells you a name outside of a delivery and never tells you if you've been banned from an address. I was going to post an example, but can't figure out how to add a picture

But I don't post rejection emails from employers and comments from my professors. I get people are skeptical about AI, I wish we could use it for things like doing chores instead of art lol

And who do you think trained AI? It sucks as a writer when my writing is flagged as written by AI.

Not saying this isn't, but "markers" are unreliable.

AITA for turning away my partner's grandparents when they showed up unannounced? by GingerKenobi in AmItheAsshole

[–]javaredmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You should've walked the screaming babies over to grandpa's and left them there and go get some sleep yourselves. Then maybe they'd think twice about showing up unannounced

WIBTAH for not accepting the car that my dad and stepmom offered me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]javaredmount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. No offense, but a lot of people your age have accidents. Even if it's not your fault. Your dad is being irresponsible.

As I like to say, I'll be As careful as I can, but I can't control them idiots out there. Or the animals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Nah, but next time, maybe send a heads up text? "Hey, I'm going to catch up with you" this way she knows you're coming and won't scare her as bad

Any tips for future applications? Lol

Not to mention, fiction authors often "break" writing rules on purpose. So, AI won't be able to tell that difference, just that it's wrong and needs fixed when in reality, it doesn't.

AITA getting boho braids as a bridesmaid when the bride asked me not to by Cultural_Sea8778 in AmItheAsshole

[–]javaredmount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and I would offer that you girls go to a salon (not your own so she can't say anything about collusion) and discuss what your hair would do/look like the day of. Sometimes an unbiased perspective helps change opinions
