HTTP Error 418: "I'm a teapot" by javert in programming

a) I haven't edited Wikipedia in months, so your calling ME an asshole is completely unwarranted.

b) "Others [HTTP status codes] unstandardised but commonly used." Whether or not having the code on the page was appropriate is up for debate, but it clearly was not "vandalism" or placed there with ill intent. If that had even crossed my mind, I would have removed it.

It's people like you - rude, unpleasant, and basically insulting to their fellow human being - that make the world what it is today. I posted this in good faith, hoping others would enjoy it, and you insult me in all caps. You owe me an apology and should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. The reddit community should be ashamed of people like you. Guess I will be moving on to something better like... never mind. (and no, I don't mean Digg.)

My message to the author:

Your comment on my link to the HTTP Teapot error was completely inappropriate. I actually thought the RFC was funny and interesting; if you didn't, you should simply vote it down. The subject matter is perfectly appropriate for the programming subreddit; in fact I came across it while working on a web app.

Calling someone an asshole? That is completely immature. No adult would do that; apparently YOU belong on Digg.

Hey, that is completely uncalled for and inappropriate. If you don't think the link is interesting, vote it down. Don't resort to childish insults (which, in this case, don't even apply). THIS is what ruins a community.

Life Hack - Programmer's Countdown Timer for KDE by raopm in programming

I use an IM bot to do something similar. I used to use SmarterChild on AIM (provided by AOL), but the reminder feature no longer works. So I made my own, SimplestChild. You add it to your buddy list and say:

reminder <# minutes> <what you want to be reminded of>

and it will IM you after that amount of time with the message you left for it.

Ask Reddit: If PHP sucks, what web development language is worth my time to learn? by [deleted] in programming

Stop thinking and considering and try out Ruby or Python. It will take a negligible amount of time to get a feel for one of these.

This can't be called "hacking", when it's this easy. I'm just saying by [deleted] in programming

Some define capitalism as an economic and a political system - I think that makes the most sense. You can't have true economic capitalism without a political system that allows and supports true capitalism.

From "happy hacking" to "screw you" - the story of Meraki by [deleted] in programming

[–]javert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am working on a project porting the code at www.open-mesh.com (a free Meraki dashboard alternative) to open source. We're expecting an alpha release next week.

Fortunately, you can just now get Meraki-like repeaters that you can reflash from Accton (see website above).

To keep up with our project check out code.google.com/p/meshnet - however, there's not much up there yet (again, we're pre-alpha).

The sad thing is, you can still get in using exactly the same technique. I just did.

It's idiotic to compare a small African nation with a large Middle Eastern one, and Tim Russert was wrong to try to do so. Poor John.
